Are there any decent PDog towns left in Texas? If so, are there any dependable outfitters that are set up to offer hunts? Recommendations would be most appreciated.

I've been several times with Sagebrush Outfitters. He has DYI hunts on a bunch of public government land. He gives you a "map" of pastures available to hunt. We always shot a few but not enough to justify an 8–9-hour drive to Dalhart/New Mexico to shoot a handful of rounds.
The fields we did see with a bunch of PD's were private and off limits.
There are quite a few near Lubbock and up around Vernon but the locals usually shoot these.

Thanks for the info. I recall that there was a huge die off of PD in Texas/New Mexico a few years back, but was wondering in the population has rebound much since then to justify outfitters taking on clients again. Of course it is always difficult to sort out legit outfitters from those just seeking a quick buck unless one gets first hand experiences. Thus, this thread.

Here is Jeremy's info. He lives on the famous Buffalo Springs Ranch. Really cool place. He also does great pronghorn hunts there and Deer Hunts in Kansas. There is a nice house there his hunters stay in. Good heat and AC. 6oo yard steel rifle range. Nothing fancy but fun if the hunting is slow. LLC Sagebrush Hunts sagebrushhunts@gmail.com (806) 333-4358 You can tell him Buzz Skinner referred him to you. He is a great guy and always shot us straight on conditions. I'm pretty sure he will remember me as we hunted with him, I think 3 years. My hunting party are all old and didn't want to make the long drive anymore.

Thanks Buzz. Like you say, that is a long ways (even longer from Tyler) to drive for just a few PDs on public ground. I would really like to find a place on private property that controls the number of hunters. Sounds like the numbers in the panhandle may have rebounded some, but would like further confirmation.

Shooting pdogs in Texas is hard. First is shooters do not share info unless they don't do it any more or need a someone to go to fill the required 4 person minimum. I myself just paid for 4 shooters and two of us would shoot. I've shot up around Dalhart, Dumas and the Lubbock area. The guide I used in the Lubbock area has always been honest about the amount of pdogs available. Hard to justify the long drive and cost to go 100-200 rounds per day for a two-day shoot. Last year I bit the bullet and did a diy hunt in Colorado on the Comanche National Grassland. If you do this make sure you know and I mean know the rules. We almost got in trouble from a game warden for being too far from the road/entryway. 30ft means 30ft! I suggest using ONX and knowing the difference from what you think is a road and what road is marked on the map. The map is correct. Expect very windy, sunny dry conditions, and be prepared for them. Had great shooting compared to Texas. I shot 1398 rounds over 3 days. We did have some local help and where to look for towns. Helped on the first day. 2nd day we only shoot half the day and scouted for the 3rd day. It paid off too.

If you had some time this Spring you might find a good shoot up this way in Wyoming. Public ground, not many other shooters if any and decent numbers. Maybe combo with a turkey hunt on public land as well, see a couple of areas of the state. I'd be willing to bet you may find private access as well if you get up here before cattle hit the range, late May into June.
It would be a 12-15 hr drive from North Texas though.
