Wanted to see anyone has tried the new Kent Fasteel shot. I’ve used the Fasteel 2.0 up to date but was looking into this new shot.

Kent Cartridge® Fasteel+ Precision Plated Steel Shot Shells are loaded with a high-performance base wad, custom-blended double base powder, the incredibly-reliable CD2000 primer, and a premium wad. Kent adds a binary load with 2 layers of precision-plated steel in different sizes. This allows the smaller shot to draft behind the larger shot and keeps your pattern tighter giving you devastating pattern density at high velocities.
High-performance base wad
Custom-blended double base powder
CD2000 primer for reliable ignition
Premium wad
Binary load
Maximized pattern density and energy

I'm skeptical of these binary/duplex loads, seems like if they were a good idea people would have been using them all along. Seems more likely a way to manage excess stock in a particular shot size or similar financial motivation. Smaller shot drafting behind bigger shot like NASCAR? I don't buy it. That said, Kent does make nice shotshells.

I use multi shot size in nickle plated bismuth but not sure about steel. Steel is so light. With that said it takes 5 seconds to pattern which leaves no questions

Duplex and triplex loads are all the rage in the turkey hunting world. Smaller shot for denser patterns at short range, and bigger shot for longer range. It seems to work pretty good, so I think the same would apply to waterfowl hunting. I will have to give it a try once I shoot all the #2 shells I currently have. Shame that the Remington brand let the Hypersonic shells go away. That was my go-to for several years and a couple truckloads of ducks and geese died as a result.

Most of that stuff is 100% marketing hooey. “Incredibly reliable primer”?……I’ve shot well over 100,000 rounds at skeet in the last 30+ years, using several different primers, and never had a primer that was struck properly fail. What could be more reliable than that.

I haven’t kept up with the waterfowling world, lately, but just reading that screams marketing garbage, to me.

What a pattern board will not show you is shot string. If a shell using a single shot size has a 5-8 foot shot string, common sense tells me a shell with two different sizes of shot either by diameter, density, or hardness is going to have a much longer shot string. In the turkey hunting world this would not be important because the entire pattern would reach the stationary target. A high flying fast target would matter with a shot string spreading out 10 ft or more. Of course wad design in these duplex loads may or may not be different too. Like Black cloud that uses a wad designed to intentionally shorten the shot string.
