During the most recent years most of my duck hunting has been wood ducks on my lease in Young County. Since they are resident I can always count on them until late season when too much cold pushes them farther south or maybe once the last of the mast has fallen and gone they move on. Yet they are still here right now and more showed up just ahead of this front. I have been seeing maybe twice as many as last year. On my lease I usually have some divers show up later in season too and occasional mallards and teal on the tanks. So far this season, I have seen nothing but wood ducks and that is unusual. I have not been able to hunt the Sandhills either. I have only seen one small group pass over my lease this season and that is unusual too. But I can still bank on the wood ducks. Be sure to keep those wood duck areas in mind while y'all are doing your scouting if your having trouble finding huntable birds.

I hunted them before work this morning… first time I’ve hunted the flooded timber this season. The mallards usually show up about this time of year but it is all wood ducks here. If the snow falls that is predicted north of me tomorrow, I am hopeful it may send some mallards my way.
