I wish we could get the LSBA going again. Urban bowhunting is the perfect solutions for towns like this across the state. It's an unrealized opportunity that I feel equates to a tragedy.

Traps would work fine.
My son works just South of DFW airport in the industrial area and they had to trap hogs from their property last year, he's seen turkeys too in the parking lot, lol.

Terrorizing! I saw the video on local TV where the reporter and homeowner were walking among the hogs as they rooted around people's yards.

I grew up in Lake Highlands in Dallas near Whiterock Lake and WR Lake was one of our go-to recreation areas. For more than a decade, now, hogs have been an issue in the green zone (bottoms, flood plain parks, WR Lake, even in the middle of my stomping grounds just south of 635 a few years ago. They have hired trappers, but the problem persists. I am not arguing that trapping doesn't work, but they seem to be trying to trap them where they are problems (around WR Lake, for example) without trapping them at tributary entry areas into Dallas, LOL. In short, they are trying to stop them at the wrong places (or were as of a few years ago). A friend of mine was a biologist advising with Dallas over this. It is like hiring security for your home, but the guy only works in your closet. The home invader can ransack the house before getting to the closet. Perimeter security would be better. Basically, they are spot treating the problem, no doubt due to expense. How do you stop hogs from entering Dallas? It would literally take a small army of trappers and hundreds of traps for normal perimeter entry points such as creek bottoms. Where is the budget for that?

Plus, they have had trapper issues.

When it can, nature will find a way. WR Lake that never had deer and such when I was growing up now have deer and turkeys as well as feral hogs.

We went through something similar with coyotes when I lived in Fayetteville, North Carolina. During a study conducted by NC State, coyote hunting was strictly forbidden on Fort Bragg, and the coyote population got pretty bad. They took care of the stray cats, and the pet cats, and the small dogs, etc. The first time I ever heard the acronym “SSS”. All I can tell you is not all city folks are as detached from reality as some might think. And predator hunting must have been pretty popular before the ban, or somebody was trapping and releasing them in the Fayetteville/Fort Bragg area because it got pretty bad. And about half coyotes in the city that were tested for rabies tested positive.

In the end, the city hired teams of coyote hunters from Texas of all places to come get rid of them. That apparently involved a lot of road hunting. But the coyotes in my little subdivision disappeared. They must have done something right.

You know, there are powerful modern air rifles that lay down power similar to a 45 ACP that make almost no noise when suppressed. Literally, all you hear is the doing of the hammer spring and the impact of the hammer against the valve.

Personally, if I lived in Irving right now, I’d have a feeder in the yard and a ladder stand too. Get one of those red or green spotlights that screws in to the stab hole of the compound bow👌. Might not make a difference in the big scheme but I would have a lot of fun trying cowboy

Area home north of me had 2 bobcats walking around the pool this morning. Critters are doing what critters do. Just gota watch when I let the dog out.
