Hopefully everyone has got their water pipes winterized, HVAC filters checked and so on. What other things does everyone do in case someone else has forgotten and it would apply to them?

Outside is wrapped. I put electric heat tape with battery backup on all the pipes in the attic seven years ago, sure glad I don't have to crawl around up there now and have to do it I don't think I could. I still leave things trickling all night.

Lower your outboard motors to allow the water to run out.

I drained the water out of the bunkhouse and stuffed the ground shut off valve boxes with bubble wrap.

The guy that installed my sprinkler system didnt bury it very deep so I drained it. Might not be necessary but better safe than sorry.

Isn’t it only going to be like 23 with highs in the 40s for most of TX?

I get that’s still colder than it has been but nothing like we’ve had the last few years with temps dipping down into the low teens and single digits and staying below freezing.

Everyone seems to be super concerned but it’s not going to be THAT cold, at least here

For most in DFW area it will not get cold enough nor cold enough long enough to do any water pipe damage

If you have a frost proof hose bib I would remove the water hose and put it back on in March.

Got several potted plants in the well house. Faucets all wrapped and covered. Bunch of firewood on the back porch. Only a couple more minor things to do this morning.

I do the same, shut the water valves off to the sprinkler system and open the pressure valve to drain the excess water.

On the last big freeze we had, my Kuerig coffee maker water reservoir in the cabin cracked because I did not drain the water out of it.
I also take all out all bottled water, cokes any kind of liquid in that is full in the container so it does not freeze and burst.

I have a couple of the little 750/1500 watt space heaters with the radiator looking grid inside. Sometimes they get pretty dusty, particularly the one in the shop. An air hose blows a fog of dust out and they work much better. This has about nothing to do with this forecast, just regular maintenance.

Get yourself a few of these and you'll have zero issues. This is my third winter with them and I don't have to worry about draining lines, burst pipes, or waking up in the middle of the night to run the taps a bit anymore. Use them at my house in town and at the farm, then just take them off to clean and store for the other 3 seasons.

Seriously underrated.

You’d need dynamite to get 6 feet down in half this state.

Seen the ads on tv, thinking it was a gimmick. First hand reports are very helpful, thanks.

No different here. Much of the country is 4 inches of topsoil with granite below that. Any place in the Precambrian shield (about half the country) is this way for sure. Underground services are all drill and blast in these areas and for most need to be 6 to 10 feet down to prevent freezing in the case of water and wastewater. Makes the cost for installing infrastructure stupid high.
