Anyone else have issues getting Sight mark wraith 4k on paper? I can bore sight it at any distance, but. A seem to get it on paper at all. It’s on an Omni hybrid ar15 chambered in .300 bo with a 1/2” Vortex riser. Gun shoots great with another scope, just can’t seem to get it sighted in with the Wraith. Scope and riser both on tight… both brand new

For my Wraith on my 300 BLK I used a ballistics calculator to figure out the POI at 10 yards for my MPBR and boresighted just the upper at 10, got me close enough to be on paper at the 50 yard range for proper sighting in.

Use a LARGE target! It has one-shot zeroing but sometimes the bullet hole is hard to see and it doesn't stay hot very long. Walk down to target and mark hole with magic marker. Don't need the illuminator in daylight.

I think I've sighted in upwards of 250 times, and except for the few instances where I was dealing with bad D&T jobs the only time I had any real problem was when I was lazy and tried to get away with not shooting at short range (like maybe 25 yards or even less) to get things started. Being a stubborn old bastard I'll probably go through it again one of these days.

My neighbor had problems with his. Turned out he had misread the directions and was trying to move the hole to the crosshairs instead of the crosshairs to the hole.

'The Wraith 4K does not see heat.' If you say so. But why the IR illuminator then? I know, it's not a 'thermal' scope.

I fired a shot. I measured the error in Mils. The thermal has a Mil reticle in it. I moved the reticle to the bullet hole. I repeated that process at 50 yards, then 100 yards. At 100 yards I was using my spotting scope to measure the error in Mils. Obviously the spotting scope is seeing a hole in white paper and not the heat from the hole.

Digital night vision has a light intensifier and not a thermal sensor. It doesn't detect heat. As for the actual topic if the thread, just start out closer to your target to get on paper and then increase distance as you sight in.

"Digital night vision has a light intensifier and not a thermal sensor." Nope has a cmos sensor that will see 'near IR' which is just below red. The old tube stuff was an image intensifier tube 'starlight' stuff. Anyway use a LARGE target to see how far off the bullet impact. Or, yes, just get closer.

A CMOS sensor is an electronic semi conductor that converts photons to electrons. Every Samsung phone also has one, so I wouldn't exactly call it cutting edge technology as far as night optics go. It still can't detect heat.

The wraith doesn't see heat. If you think it does, you need to borrow a thermal to see the difference.

I do say so, but apparently so does Sightmark. Why the IR illuminator? To provide illumination in the near IR spectrum. The CMOS sensor, without the IR shield in place, will see into the near IR spectrum, but not very well, not like a traditional Gen III optic, but more like a really good Gen I or mediocre Gen II. Like Gen I and Gen II, you are going to need a light source most of the time when working at night. That is where the IR illuminator comes in handy. It is a light source producing a shine invisible to most vertebrates. At 850 nm, you still have glow at the source. By 940 nm, that glow at the source is either totally eliminated or just barely visible with the unaided eye.

What we call 'heat' is energy radiation. NV includes the near IR spectrum as well as 'visible' that our eyes 'see'. IR lights used to provide reflected energy off the target and background but a hot target will have emissions in the near IR as well as far IR (thermal stuff).

Hmmm. I looked through a Wraith with an IR Illuminator and it didn’t detect a lick of heat. I looked through a Leupold LTO HD and could see heat easily. Yes I know I was slumming with both of them but that was the cheapest thermal I have and wanted to give the Wraith DNV some kind of chance. I looked through my RICO RH50 V2 afterwards just to clear my eyes up.

Go turn your stove on for 5 min, turn it off for 5 min. Look at your stove top with both scopes. Report your findings.

I've sighted a Photon and Wraith 4x in. If you can't get it on paper at 25 yds something is going on.
Shoot. Eat. Repeat.

I’ll say it one more time. My neighbor couldn’t get his on paper, until I realized he was adjusting the reticle movement improperly. He was positive he was doing it right, but he wasn’t.
