I sold a bow I shot a high record book animal with and didn’t think twice. I’ll sell my current bow without batting an eye and it’s been to several different countries with me. I have a few nice recurves and one custom that I could offload tomorrow and be perfectly fine with.

Wonder why we have such an attachment to firearms ?

Because one day the federales are going to make you glad you’ve got it. At least that’s the attachment of most people I know.

Yeah that doesent factor into it for me at all.

Guns you love should go to someone that shares your passion. Pass it on while you're around to enjoy their stories.

Had a friend many years ago that was a bit of a recluse. He was a firearm aficionado but would never divulge what he had, save for whatever he brought hunting with him. He told me during a conversation that he had set a goal when he turned 18 that he would buy at least two guns a year but never sell any. We were shooting bows at his house one day and he started talking about a particular gun that he owned. We went inside and he opened the door to a spare room he had. I’ve never seen anything quite like that. Stacked up like cordwood is the only way to describe it. Couple of years later he moved to BFE Ohio (home for him) and I heard he passed. He had a girlfriend but not married, no kids, no family. I often wonder what happened to all of them. It was easily in the hundreds, some very nice and expensive pieces.

My arsenal will be long gone before any health issues arise. I don't want my wife or daughter to be burdened with trying to get rid of them.

I'll be liquidating 5-7 after the first of the year. I've determined that's the best of course of action all things considered. Old hand guns, nice rifles..........I'd really like knowing they go to someone that will use them.

I've often thought of safe queens as being rifles that are newer guns that may have never been fired. If a more accurate definition is a rifle of any age that seldom leaves the safe, I only have two. Those would be my Remington Model 700 ADL that I purchased back in the late 80's as my first deer rifle, and an old Remington Model 24 that belonged to my grandfather and which I had restored.

I'm blessed with a son who shares my love of the outdoors, firearms, hunting and shooting. Many of the firearms in the safe are family guns. Several that I have collected for various reasons and at least one given to me along with the story of how it was acquired. My wife is encouraging me to write the history of each gun so that it isn't lost, and my son can share the knowledge. I need to get that done.

I would suggest making a video so people can see both you and each firearm as you talk about them.

The only guns I won't sell are the ones that I inherited or were gifted to me. Even if they're basically boat anchors, it's the meaning behind them for me.

I have only a few firearms that I would consider even remotely "heirloom" worthy. Nothing special about a mass-produced AR, etc. so even though I shoot those the most, they would be the first to go. I sold my 7x57 collection because ammo availability sucked and I don't really hunt anymore, but I have plans to eventually get something like a Westley Richards once I set up some other life goals that are still on the plate. This time around, probably in the easier to find cousin, 7mm-08.

I don’t have any. Guns are tools and are meant to be used as such. I wouldn’t NOT use my granddads hammer just because it belonged to him… and the same goes for guns.

So,what to do? I have a bunch of safe queens, along with handloading stuff, that I’ll never shoot. I’m not rich but don’t need money. We are retired, debt free and have everything we need or want. If I sell one, the money will go somewhere and I’ll not have the gun. I would just as soon have the safe queens, dies, lead, etc.

If you sell them now, you know they'll go to someone that will be using them. Someone having to deal with them after you leave this earth is a real burden as it's usually someone that doesn't know much about guns.

I haven't sold my inherited guns. But I didn't grow up with a grandpa at all, and my mom was terrified of guns (uncle was murdered) and didn't want dad bringing them around us. So my inherited guns really don't have any memories associated with them, and I may end up selling most or all of them when mom is gone. I'd hate for her to ask about one and me not have it now, but I won't have any use for them when she's gone for sure.

Other than that, I had a few safe queens and they're all gone now because I realized how dumb it was to have money tied up in guns that don't get used.

You will regret selling them so just keep the guns and do not worry about it, you may change your mind in the future and sell a few. Used reloading stuff is not worth a whole lot and hard to sell.

Contrary to some on here, guns are not hard to sell. If something happens to you, the family will need a contact to a buyer or an auction company. I have a firearm buyer's contact information on a sheet of paper stapled to the inside of my safe door if something happens.

I don’t have any safe queens. Only two guns I inherited were put to use this year, my boy and I each shot a deer with the 2 Win 94’s. I may not carry them all the time but I will try to hunt them all.

This is exactly what I’ll do for that reason

The two shotguns from my grandpa are still in service, a 1950s 16 gauge Wingmaster that has a polychoke barrel and a vent rib barrel that has clamp on rifle sights for use with Brenneke slugs, and then his 1922 Lefever 20 gauge that's at Briley right now getting a barrel ding it picked up somewhere over the years repaired. I wouldn't intentionally take them into foul weather like my newer shotguns, but otherwise they're fair game for field use.
