Yes the shot is real. Photographed with Nikon Z9 + 70-200mm lens.
Shot fired by Simon Reinhold using 124 yr old Lang sxs. Purposely under exposed attempting this kind of shot.
15 frames per second and pure luck I picked the same bird Simon shot at and caught the moment just before the bird folded. Not AI (apart from denoise) edited minimally to retain high contrast, silhouette of bird and shot pellets.
We think the white around beak is water droplets exploding/evaporating but not sure. Bird picked by our dog. Witnesses to the shot happening on either side.

Great pic. I bet that's water and other fluids blowing out of its beak, because of the death causing pellets going through his engine room.
