One of the few small SUVs with an 8 speed automatic instead of a CVT that has become so common in smaller vehicles. My mind can't get past the old torque converters used on mini bikes when I think of the CVT.

Anybody have experience with the Taos?

After what they did to my ancestors (and I'm not Jewish) just can't get behind anything kraut. Don't care how good or bad their product is.

I have three people I know that have had trouble with their Atlas, and another with a Jetta. I get the allure of a real transmission but I would personally never buy a VW. The rule on Audi is never own one out of warranty, apple doesn’t fall far, IMO.

And their claim that their TDI was a clean diesel! There is nothing clean about diesel.

"In 2015, Volkswagen (VW) was found to have installed software in many of its diesel vehicles that allowed them to meet emissions standards during testing but emit up to 40 times more pollution while driving normally. This software, known as a "defeat device", is illegal under the Clean Air Act. The scandal became known as "Dieselgate"."

Yep, but their new van commercial is catchy. They at least know how to hire an ad agency, unlike Liberty Mutual - stupidest commercials in my lifetime.

I don't know if it's still true but I ad a friend that had a VW not too long ago. He told me the way they are designed, you almost always have to go to the dealership for repairs. Independent mechanics do to like to work on them.

Cue Texas Lefty.

I agree with the above posts.

Today's VW is not the VW of the 70's when Rabbits and Siroccos were great vehicles.

I don't recall reading or hearing anything good about any VW in the past 20 years or so.

A coworker bought a VW (can't recall the model) 10-12 years ago. It was her 'dream' car. To say the least it was a 'nightmare.'
It spent more time in the shop for problems and repairs for the most unbelievable issues. She lost a ton of money when she dumped it.

I've heard that on all German made cars and trucks. Mercedes really gets into your checkbook.

Bought my wife a Jetta TDI in 2005,it was a great car until at 96K the transmission went south,VW corporate refused to warranty the repair because we missed the scheduled 60K service by a couple of Thousand miles,I replaced the transmission out of pocket and traded it in on a Subaru that the wife wanted.
Have since bought 4 more new Subarus for my wife, and one for my daughter,I will never buy another VW product as long as I live due to that one incident, they saved a few bucks by screwing me once but earned a lifetime enemy,I will take any chance to give them a bad review that I get, even if they made the best, highest rated Car on the market,I will never buy their product again.

'Rabbits and Siroccos were great vehicles.' Not when you and her are replacing the cyl head @ 5kmi in the back yard.

Just watched a video where the Taos' auto transmission was specifically pointed out as being problematic.

Several of my buddies owned them. We had a time in those rat racers.

Hitler himself had a hand in the development of the Beetle in the early 1930s.
