Was hunting two weekends ago and had some strange looking ‘hogs’ come in. Noticed they walked very different and had a different build. First one that came in turned his head up at me and caught a .300 wm in the chest. DEVASTATING. What a great surprise as we’ve hunted this place over ten years and never seen them on our property.

Nice! I've seen them around Megargel and 1790 & 277, East of Seymour.

Very cool! I have only tried hunting them once down in Ft. Davis with no luck.
Archer County is within their historically known range. I have a 1959 copy of Hall & Kelson's Mammals of North America that shows type localities and documented records. I mention this because several years ago, a buddy of mine killed two in SW Wichita County and I was surprised that they came this far north. I thought it was a fluke and it sort of was given how things are today, but historically, they are known from the area.

Glad to see a post like this
Truth be told, I was shown a pic of one on the Jack/Wise line about 5 years ago
It was 100% a javelina
I’ve never mentioned it until now

Distance is not the issue, but the winds can make it interesting!

I live about 8 miles north of Holliday in Wichita Co. and have for almost 20 years. We've had javelina come and go since we moved out here. I'm sure there would be more of them if knuckleheads would stop mistaking them for hogs and shooting them.
I've seen them at water holes next to the highway between Seymour and Holliday a time or two.

Interesting story, when we bought the ranch in '13. My neighbor who was selling his place, shot a Javelina somewhere in Young county. His daughter was out with him. She told her mom (ex wife) about dad killing a javelina. She had no idea it was illegal in Young county. Some how the ex knew. She called the game warden. He showed up as he was skinning it out. He never would tell me how much the fine was.
