Well great, I killed one about 50 years ago near Big Bend that would go into their records. It was the biggest anyone had ever seen.
I had it mounted but it was a poorly done job and fell completely apart about 25 years
ago and I threw it away. We weighed in on a scale at the processor and it was 76 pounds gutted. I can't remember how
long the teeth were. But impressive enough for me to get it mounted.

I just measured mine and it’s right at 13 6/8, with flex tape so your has to break 14’s

The LSBA (Lone Star Bowhunters Assoc.) has kept records of javis for a long time.

hunters fly in to the King all the time to hunt javis and complete the slam.

I've shot 3 or 4 and have the required open-mouth shoulder mount, plus a couple euros. All killed on the Continental between Sheffield and Sanderson. 'Hate it when they run the deer off.

We had the backstraps, prepared by our group's lease "manager"/deer expert/bbq expert. Not bad at all. Avoid the gland.

Adding them to the Texas Slam cheapened it to me. Hope they don’t add armadillos.

Years ago Ed Foreman saw my javi at one of the C Ranch booths we had in Houston at the Texas Trophy Hunters Extravaganza. Said it was the biggest one he had ever seen. Had it mounted on a small hog form. Mount is 30 years old and still looks good.

In the early 60's we killed several north of Big Bend park on 50,000 acre ranch, don't think they were considered a game animal,ranchers kids hunted them like jack rabbits.Rancher said they tore up the fences

Remember the outfitter on here that sold the Yankee guys a javi hunt in Refugio. I still feel bad for those guys.

They are fun to bow hunt none the less. I even had old STX spot and stocking them

I’ve never looked it up until now but my wife is #6 under the rifle division. I’ve stared at it on my wall for 20 years not realizing that.

SCI has had a javelina category for years.

The Texas Wildlife Association's Texas Big Game Awards have recognized the javelina category for years.

I've shot a few in my day but won't shoot anymore, unless its with my recurve.


Can't say that any of them would "book" or not.


IMO skull measurements are not indicative of how "big" an animal is, unlike Horns or Antlers. You can shoot a monster bear or cat that has a small head and it won't book. You can shoot a skinny old cat or bear with a melon head and it will book.

It was great when Boone & Crockett was founded as a record of animals that were in danger of going extinct, but imo its pointless to try and sensationalize a Javalina in todays time. We gonna start measuring Beaver and Bobcat skulls next? What about Jackrabbits?


SCI (and I'm a member and supporter of SCI) will make up subspecies of animals so people can go after them to get their name in the book or go after a slam.
