Had to take what the bush gives me. We have plenty of gobblers but we sell a few hunts for them in the spring so I lay off them. Plus, these make better table fare.
Thats a good hen. I got one this year, too. Whole flock kept cruising by my stand in my top secret public ground spot eating chinkapins. Crop full of chinkapins

Tiny acorns. Might be better known by another name. But the oaks with tiny acorns are chinkapins. Tiny acorns and pumpkinseed bream are both called chinkapin. Probably because they are small.
The chinkapins are the first acorns to dissappear. They are the prime. Burr oaks, opposite. I know a stand of burr oaks with piles of acorns never touched.

There are 2 trees referred to as Chinkapins. One is a variety of oak and the other is a variety of chestnut tree, that all but disappeared other than in some pockets with the widespread distribution of the Chinese chestnut bring in a blight to the native trees. Both type of chinkapins are very well liked by deer.

All I can tell you is a hen that’s been on chinkapins makes a fine meal. Crazy how they can stop arrows, though. I am sure it’s in part due to that NAP Killzone head, too. But my bow is pumping out 112 fpe.
