Howdy,

My son drew the youth Deer hunt on Matagorda Island and we cant wait.

I found this thread and read up on some tips and wanted to see if anyone recently has hunted Matagorda Island.

Wasp spray, mosquito spray, tarps, wagons, and getting there early are some key takeaways I've gathered.

Anyone hunted recently and have some feedback?

Thank you!!

I do plan on doing a full write up when I get back. A lot of these type of posts seem to go unanswered and I'm curious if folks just forget to share how their hunt went after the fact.

Has anyone deer hunted on Matagorda Island?

Here is what I am taking/doing so far.

secured charter through referral from Port O'connor
tarp to block wind
tarp to put below tent
utility cart to easily move gear and coolers from ice chest
mosquito and wasp repellant
ice/water/food
camping gear
firewood
be prepared for long shots
bringing a thermal to help locate deer in tall grass
