My buddy and I took a trip to south Texas down to Thompson Temple's ranch to hunt Snow Urial rams. We both took a couple of nice ones. I also took a management Corsican ram. Nice weekend get away. I saw a jet black Midnight Urial ram. He was magnificent looking. That's next on my list of exotics.

I was shooting my custom LRI left-handed Win Model 70 300 WSM shooting Hornady 178 gr ELD-X bullet. Bullet entered behind left front shoulder and didn't exit. The ram turned, dropped and kicked once. That bullet is devastating on animals.

The rifle was built by Chad Dixon at Long Range Inc (RLI). Left-handed Win Model 70 action, 24" K&P SS barrel. It has a McMillian Hunter stock. A year after the build I had a AAA grade walnut Weatherby MK 5 stock made for it. I have a GPO 3-18X44mm scope with SFP illuminated MOA reticle on top. Shooting Hornady 178 gr ELD-X ammo, it shoots in the 4's. It also has a 7" Thunder Beast suppressor. It's an incredible shooting rifle.

Great question. Thompson Temple told me they were great eating. However, I posted on here a week or so before the hunt asking the same question. Nobody said they tasted good. We met Thompson's grandson before he showed up. He didn't care for the meat. He said most everyone donates there meat to the homeless shelter down in that area. Exactly what we did.

I read what everyone mentioned but was curious about a recent experience. I'm kind of a fan of mutton and goat, spent a bit of time in the middle east and Afghanistan so guess I acquired the taste. I also like pronghorn that most folks speak of in about the same manner.

Congrats on the rams. Thompson is quite the character. Glad you have better luck with the 178 ELDX than I’m having. I’m sending them from a 308, so not nearly as fast as your WSM, but I’m getting exits on every animal with very little expansion

My son is also shooting the 178 gr ELD-X out of his .308. He hasn't complained as the deer he's shot have never gone far after getting hit. Yes, Thompson is a character. Super nice guy, he's done a lot of work in the world of exotics.

Did you take the ride up the mtn. My sil and I went there about 14 years ago and had a great time. We both took rams. The trip up the mtn was an experience in it self.
