This guy dodged a near miss this archery season. Now that it’s rifle I’m thinking he gets a pass. What are y’all’s thoughts on his age? I think he’s 4.5

Thanks!

Looks younger to me. I was thinking 3.5, but a very pretty buck, with good genetics.

Pretty deer, if he makes you happy then take him if you get the opportunity!!! I'd definitely shoot him if he walked out in front of me. I'm regretting not shooting a ten point opening morning that I'd never seen before because I knew a big 8 lived in that area.

I'm all for letting younger deer walk, unless it's a kid hunting. I saw a great video of Uncle Ted yesterday.....we have to stop vilifying other hunters if they like a deer and want to harvest it, regardless of age, score, etc.

If I am shooting with a bow, its a good enough buck to shoot with a rifle. That part doesn't change for me.

Having said that, this buck would get a pass for me on both. But that is me, not you.

If he makes you happy, shoot him. Won't be hurting anything by taking him out, other than not letting this particular deer get older.

Are you managing for big deer? Will your neighboring ranches shoot him? Will your lease members shoot him? Answer these and find your answer

Yeah, I don’t get it. Either he should be shot or not. What’s the weapon got to do with it?

At any rate, if you want him take him. Stop asking a bunch of random people on the internet what you should do.

He did not ask anyone what to do. He merely asked opinions on age which most on here would think was a good idea.
And lots of folks have different standards depending on weapon and I understand that.

Thank you Free Range!

Shooting a 4 year old good buck with your bow is not the same as shooting monster with a rifle from a box blind. Heck I feel like shooting a doe with your bow is far more exciting than shooting most bucks with a rifle.

Appreciate everybody input on age!
