I realize gun laws keep changing but what is the current status of having rifle racks on your rear window. I live in rural area and I realize this wouldnt be good in a urban area. I cant say I seen any for sale at sporting good stores but I still own a couple. I am looking for input from law enforcement officials please.

Great "throw back Thursday" picture!
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

I realize you cant be in a school area etc. that would be asking for trouble. I am talking about out on rural roads.

Yes you can carry a rifle in plain view in your vehicle. I live as rural as just about possible but I still don’t leave guns unattended and exposed in my truck if I’m in the only small town in the area. Drug addicts are all over Texas.

I'm a few years behind you but grew up around the same time. I miss those days. That being said, being completely legal isn't gonna stop some California transplant from being triggered and calling the nearest SWAT unit on you.

I remember my high school orientation back in '88 or '89....principal said "I know you boys are going hunting after school, and I don't care if you leave your guns in your trucks in the school parking lot, just please don't leave them in the gun rack in the rear window...."

Mine was not in sight when I was at school. No one ever asked and I never told. I graduated HS in 1989.

I graduated in1960 and we didn’t hide the shotguns during dove season. I don’t recall that we locked the doors but maybe did.

We got the same except our principal didn't go so far as to condone firearms on school property. Just said he walked the lot every day and didn't want to see any guns in our racks. My gun rack held a hot-shot, a sorting stick, a couple ropes, and a short 5' bull whip.

Holland Tx 1978-1983. Most guys had rifles or shotguns in their vehicles depending on the season. We would take them to AG/shop class and work on them, mount scopes, etc. We all carried pocket knives. Sharpened them in class. Played chicken and stretch at recess. Any “violence” at school was a fistfight or wrestling match…. Edit: we had about 200 K-12….13 in my graduating class!

All the neighbors watched out for each other. And everyone knew they’re neighbors. We were on a party line for years…

My gun rack held a hot-shot, a sorting stick, a couple ropes, and a short 5' bull whip. I had an old ax handle with a large nail in the end of it. We used it when running our trap lines. Smack a coon in the top of the head driving the nail into its brain and wiggle back and forth a couple of times scrambling its brain. Quick death with minimal damage to the hide. Coach saw it in my car one day and asked me what it was. I told him and his reply was, “good idea.”

My parents grew up in a small town in western Oklahoma. One of the stories I got out of my dad before he died was about a high school football game he was playing in where a flock of snow geese landed in a field next to the football bleachers during a game. In that place and time he said everyone carried shotguns in their trucks. The refs paused the game and everyone, players, parents, teachers, coaches, refs, etc. retrieved their shotguns from the parking lot. The entire group walked up a ditch between fields and jump shot the geese killing several. After retrieving the birds and killing cripples he said they all returned and finished the game.

We always put the rifle racks behind the seats so they were hidden. I guess we were paranoid even back in the 70's.

Many days, I would duck hunt before school and change in the parking lot. The principal was an avid duck hunter who got there about the same time I did most days and he would often come over and ask how I did and chat for a bit. A few days after Columbine, he called me down to the office and told me I needed to make damn sure that nobody else ever saw a gun in my car on school property. "Things are changing" he said.
