Yeah, it’s me again. I was unsuccessfully waiting for a doe to show up on Friday afternoon, when I saw a small hole in the tin roof of the blind I was in. It isn’t old tin, so it shouldn’t have a hole. It’s not a bullet hole. I need to plug the hole, and do it from below, but don’t know what would work best. The hole is less than half the size of the fingernail on your little finger. About the size of a big self tapping screw, or a bit bigger.

- squirt a silicone sealant through the hole?
- plug the hole with a fat screw, with silicone?
- use the silicone or a grout and then use duct tape to hold it in place?
- wooden or rubber plug?
- a plug with silicone sealer?

Open for suggestions…

Is it a tower that you can't get outside above it?

I'm headed out in a bit to Flexseal the hell out of a couple of large cracks/ holes, from hail I guess, in the one plastic Blynd I have. Looks like its days are numbered.

Yep, I can’t get on top of the blind. I think I have some flexseal tape, that might work and be an easy solution.

For a tin roof, I have used your 1st solution successfully. Many times.

"squirt a silicone sealant through the hole"

I dug around in the barn workshop and found some Gorilla brand flex tape. Man, that’s some sticky stuff. We’ll see if it lasts.

The silicone sealant sounded like a good option. That’s next if the tape fails.

Is there no plywood under the tin roof? I’d shoot it full of silicone and cover it with tape.

No plywood up there. I’ll keep an eye on the tape and see how it holds up.

If the tape doesn't last, a little JB Weld might do the trick.

JB weld won't expand and contract with the tin, and therefore won't seal. Don't ask me how I know.

Creekrunner, I built a 4x4 box blind for my Dad years ago. Put a tin roof on it, trailered it over to NE Louisiana and put it right where he wanted. I went back to Texas, waited a week and called to ask how he liked the new blind. He said that it started to rain that first afternoon that he hunted from it, the sound on the tin roof lulled him to sleep, and he didn’t wake up till 9 that night. Like him, I love the sound of rain on a tin roof.

As for my blind, after the rains this week I’ll go have a look at the tin roof hole. Hopefully that fancy tape will hold up.

I have done silicone followed by flexseal tape (or equivalent)

I find duct tape or similar will get destroyed by sun within a year or less

Easy way...squirt a self-tapping screw with some form of sealant and then thread into hole. Problem solved

For now I have that Gorilla flex tape stuck firmly to the bottom of the hole. I’ll see how that holds up over time. The hole itself isn’t big. Think 20 caliber or maybe a bit smaller. Perfectly round and neat on the edges.

I have some self tapping tin roof screws that have a rubber washer. Probably that and some silicone sealer (between the rubber washer and the tin) would do the job.

Putting a sheet of tin over the current one sure wouldn''t hurt.

To have your repair material larger than the hole itself, a tube of caulk from the inside through the hole, apply all the way around the perimeter of the hole so that it spills over the edge on the top, and then fill the center. You can't reach out through a window to work from the top?

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

I can’t reach the top, unfortunately. The flex tape is working, and eventually I’ll try to plug the hole from below. With the roof being a new sheet of tin, I still don’t know how it got a perfectly round small hole.hole. Also odd that I never noticed it before, in the years I’ve had that blind.

I was thinking similarly, but I'd add a large flat (fender) washer to the screw. Goop it all with silicone sealer, screw into place, and voila!

Little JB weld or similar epoxy on a hole that small should last forever.
