The past 10 months I’ve had a big problem with pigs tearing up my land. I trapped 14 of them- I thought that was it and within a week of pulling the traps I had around 50 more show up. I had them in a routine- eating corn and fish guts every night about 30 minutes after dark. I’d shoot a couple and within 3 or 4 days they would show back up. The cycle repeated for months. About 3 weeks ago I shot one and they haven’t returned. Do pigs just leave entire areas randomly and not return? I was having so much fun shooting them lol

The hogs on my place have disappeared again. I’m pretty sure that they’ve found a good acorn supply. They’ll be back.

No. They will leave areas randomly and return at a later date. But, once you have them, I have never heard of anyone who has been able to completely and permanently get rid of them.

No, pigs aren't random creatures, though their actions may appear that way. Hogs "disappear" from given properties from time to time. They are gone because they found better food/water/resources elsewhere (already mentioned), less hunting pressure elsewhere, or because some sort of event is keeping them from your property, such as another hunter that shoots at them before getting to your place. It may be that your neighbor got fed up with your hogs and trapped the entire lot, but that isn't on the hogs, LOL.

They disappeared on my place for nearly two years. Strangest thing. A few weeks back a group of 10 to 12 have shown back up. On my places for three or four days then gone for a few and back again. It was really strange!

Distance is not the issue, but the winds can make it interesting!

Hey, dont worry those critters will be back. Same thing happening right now over here, im northwest of houston area,
nera brenham tx, pigs come and go. Since our lack of rain, they have moved on, once rains come back
and we have regular fronts bringing moisture im sure they will return, Count your blessings for now!
Yea they make good targets, have a new suppressed load for 300blk and ready to try it out!

happy shooting....

We had a landowner that swore the sudden BOOM of a rifle was what pigs are afraid of, not that a member of the sounder had died. He said that if we would shoot at them without a silencer, they would runoff for a few weeks. I do not know if his theory was right, but it seemed to work perfectly, or there were other factors. We would shoot at them on a few hunts and they would be gone for weeks before they returned. This cycle continued but they would always return, sometimes in a few weeks, sometimes a month or better.

I don't believe that theory. I have shot a pig out of the same sounder two or three nights in a row before they get the message. Usually when they do get the message, they return after just a few days. Usually at night, but they usually return quickly.

One of these days, I am going to write a book on the folklore and superstitions of hog hunting.

At my place in east Texas, the pigs randomly show up and randomly disappear for months at a time. I think in your case it had nothing to do with you shooting them. They just do this in my observations, I’ll bet they will return at some point.

Make sure and include that they can smell grubs 20 feet deep. laugh
I have yet to see a pig dig 20 feet deep

Acorns are dropping and they don't need to come to your feeders right now....give them about 6 weeks to clean up the acorns.
