I saw a good number of dead does on the highway yesterday, probably 10 or so and only 1 buck. With the increase of dead does on the highway does that mean they are getting pushed by bucks, or looking for more food sources as we head into winter you think?

Thats normally the assumption and likely a good one.

on my way back to Georgetown from Fairfield Sunday, Nov. 3, there were 6-7 bucks hit on IH35 between Waco & Temple, mostly smaller antlers/bodies. Not really what I call heavy deer country but I was kinda surprised at the numbers laying against the center concrete median. I headed to Ozona on Monday, Nov. 4 and saw very few dead ones all the way out thru Llano, Mason, Junction, Sonora, Ozona and down 35-40 miles SW. All the bucks were still in bachelor groups out there also.

I counted 15 dead deer on 20 between Ft Worth and Weatherford on Thursday.

Whoa that's a lot of deer in a short stretch!

Full moon is Friday. Heading to the lease tomorrow and will be in the blind all day thru Sat… if need be.

Saw 3 on 35 just north of Temple Friday before opener. First time I have seen dead deer on 35. 1 year on 281 when the rut was in full swing I saw lots of deer during mid day. I think road kills go way up during the run.

I gotta wonder of Parks and Wildlife has any numbers on how many deer die on Texas highways every night. Down here, on highway 90 between Del Rio and Comstock you can count on at least 2 a night. Stretch that out to Sanderson and the numbers go up probably close to double digits.

We hunt out in Colorado City and we see the most dead deer on the road in this stretch of Highway near weatherford.

Counted 7 yesterday mid-morning between Benbrook and Weatherford, only a few looked fresh. And only 3 the rest of the way to Cisco.

12 pretty fresh ones between Abilene and Goldthwaite tonight.

Several dead bucks between Decatur and witchita falls on Tuesday afternoon, all within a day or 3 of being hit.

It's the rut. The bucks are out looking to make babies. Full moon will get them out any time of the year.

About a dozen between Bowie and Fort Worth.

The dead deer are thick on the roads around Weatherford this year. There have been some good bucks that loose their head a night too.

Dead deer on the road in east texas is my main indicator the rut is on.
