I have an All Seasons, timed, protein feeder. The protein falls into a tray and that tray is just about the right height for a coon to stand on his back legs and eat the protein out of the tray.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep the coons from doing that?

They just have to stick their hands in those dog proof traps!

I snipe them also. (17hmr)

You just have to stay after them. If you see 3-4 you probably have more like 15 in the area.

What do you all think is the best bait for the dog proof traps? I've tried several different baits and marshmallows seem to do the best. They are a pain to use when they get warm and sticky. It's getting close to the best time to trap them.

Dry cat food. Transfer to a large plastic jug, like OJ or ice tea for storage. Easy peezy. 'Learned it on here.up

Knockoff Fruit Loops have worked well for me. Cheap and last forever in the bag.

I've never had to use anything other than corn. That's why they came to the feeder in the first place. Dispatched many coons with a paw in a corn-filled Z-Trap.

Yeah, get the feeder higher. And, get some barriers on the legs to keep the coons off. Been there, done that, multiple times.

This is what I use at our house and it gets them every time - once trapped I haul them out to the country and release them - found out recently though that can and will travel up to 10 miles to get back to their home area

Traps as posted ^ ^ ^
If you're making a set by a feeder, whatever the feeder is slinging
is your bait. Bait D.P. 's with corn or pellets, etc.
Dry cat food is good as posted ^ ^ and/or a combination
of corn and cat food. JMHO- I don't like wet slick stuff inside
a D.P. trap.
Be sure to put a 22 in it's noggin to make sure it's down.
Coons can claw and bite pretty bad.
Make double sure whatever traps you're using are anchored
double solid. A coon can tear up stuff out of proportion to
their size. Way back when all I had was a live trap, coons
would tumble and get the trap rolling to get the doors
undone.
Good Luck. Don't let up

Please don't release any if you're going to the trouble to trap em.
It just educates animals about traps and makes it harder to catch
elsewhere. And somebody else will have to deal with it after the
coon that was released kills a bunch of someone's poultry, or
tears up their feeder timers, or chews up electrical wiring on
any vehicles or equipment , takes up residence in a hunting
blind and fills it up with poop and urine, etc. etc.

Agree with don't release them.

While a fairly common practice (driving a distance away and releasing) it only makes your problem...someone else's. Happens to be illegal as well.

A guy on here made a multi-page saga outa trapping and moving one.

I kill all mine. By the time I get my lazy butt to trapping them, they're so fat they couldn't fit in a Hav-a-heart trap anyway.

A couple of years ago I started trapping consistently and kept track for about a month. Duke traps are great and I ran a half-dozen or so with just a bit of corn inside and sprinkled around. I cannot remember exact final number but it was in the 40 - 50 range. I don't believe there was a night I did not get at least one, and several nights, especially early on, with 2 or 3.

It is probably time to do again as I believe that was winter of 2022.

I ordered a bag off Amazon of the dry cat food snd set up 10 traps. This morning on way to blind I went by some blinds I’m not hunting this morning to put out alfalfa. Had 3 coons in traps. Looks like they like it and it’s not messy to handle.
