Is this normal? I’ve never noticed it before. I was loading up my 10/22 mags with some Lapua Long Range. This ammo is new to me. I noticed the magazine was getting harder and harder to load. Much harder than it should. I noticed my finger and thumb was all greased up. WTH? It’s coming from the ammo. Why is that necessary?

Takes me 5 minutes to load a 10 round mag. This stuff is really making a mess!

Wait till you shoot it. Smells different, kind of a sweet smell.

All lead .22 ammo is lubed. Some lube, like Eley's lube, is a thick sticky wax, Some, like CCI, is barely noticeable. Lapua's lube is very thin and slippery. I don't like their lube either, but their ammo shoots the best for me.

Lube has a lot of influence on accuracy.

I found that out the first time I bought Wolf Match Target to try out...or maybe Cast gave me some to try. Sometimes CRS. Anyway, I fired a number of 5-shot groups with different loads, noting how accurate the Wolf MT was. I was impressed. After I finished shooting that, I started shooting some other round, don't recall what it was but I already knew pretty much what to expect from it---I was just collecting data. To my surprise it shot a very tight group, then as I started on my second group with that load it began to open up and performing much more like I expected it to perform in the first place.

I don't clean when I switch up my rimfire ammo, but I know it may take five, ten, or even fifteen shots to get the lube from a previous load burned out of the barrel and see valid results for comparison.

Yes it's normal. If you're not shooting greasy ammo is ain't worth a crap.

Interesting. I have high hopes for this ammo. Hopefully it’s worth the mess. Thanks for the info, guys.

Your hopes might be dashed unless you bought a box of each lot available to test …..even the best ammo can change a great deal from lot to lot. In my experience Lapua, the Center X, can vary a great deal from lot to lot but the Eley stuff I’ve tested tends to vary only a little between lots.

Yes, I noticed my Ruger 22 using the 10/22 mags get gummed up at times, a Qtip with some alcohol usually
cleans it up pretty good. This CCI ammo im using for sub sonic work is lubed well i say! not sure why it has to be
that much, cleaning is not bad....
