Hunting up in the swamps of north east Texas. Having a problem with my feeder clogging. I suspect it’s condensation from the metal lid. Anyone have a fix for this or ran into this before?

Find a way to leave the top a little loose and not seal the barrel air tight, allowing the air inside to "breathe" but not let rain in.
If the lid has a gasket, remove it.
If the lid has clamps, don't tighten all the way, but make sure wind won't blow it off.
Put a couple spacers under the lid rim. I have useb multiple layers of corn bag "zippers."

What papa45 said. We hunt East Texas between the Sabine River and a lake so it is very humid. We used to use lids with gaskets and the ring clamp and our barrels would sweat really bad. We started using these for our 55 gallon drum feeders. If you are using barrels, be sure and get the lid that fits, closed top barrel or open top barrel have different dimensions. Picture is of the yellow as it comes and after painting. Good luck

I mix in a couple bags of rice. When about half full I will dump a bag all around on top then when full I will do the same on top. Seems to work for me.

Just glue foam to the lid

Corn itself has moisture, heat it up in a sealed container and you have problems. Take the seal off and use a cinder block to hold your lid in place. I have one barrel feeder I've kept running forever like this. My Ramball feeder is black steel plate that you think would be conducive to condensation. It's not. The lid is very heavy, hinged but over sized with an overhang of the hopper of 1" and oversized by about 1/2" on all sides. Zero leaks or rain penetration but no seal mechanism so that moisture can escape.

We had a guy on the lease for one season. He built more janky crap that never worked. Built a feeder out of a black plastic food grade barrel. The lid screwed on with a rubber seal. He bragged about this set up for a couple of weeks. I went with him to fill it. Looked like it hadn't fed in a while. He screwed the lid off and almost fell off the tailgate from the fumes pouring out of the kettle of sour mash he had brewing in there. He spent hundreds on a protein feeder he designed, looked like a giant spider, didn't work. Had a huge all metal stand, shot at a hog out of it and about blew his ear drums out. He was on one end of an 8' metal box and his barrel was well within the walls of the stand. I kinda' miss the entertainment this bozo brought to the camp.

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

I added RV sewer vents to my feeder lids.

Haven't had a problem with moisture since.

Be sure to add some stainless mesh inside the vent so that bugs can't get in.

Do not seal the lid. I’d guess we hunt within 60 miles of each other and I run Buccees feeders without an issue. Straight metal lid, no seal, just an overhang on all 4 sides. It needs to breathe.

Think I’m going to try glueing something to the top of the barrel so it will vent a little.

A buddy of mine is building a gravity protein feeder now, and he puts in vents on sides just to prevent that
case from occuring. Im guessing the vents are poiint down to eleminate any rain getting into the large hopper
they are welding up. 1000lb feeder will be a pretty good size! Think these are vents used in apartment
roofs.
