This may be old news, I didn't do a search, but the KDFW has banned the hunting of wild hogs saying that hunting is an ineffective way of managing them. I think they're afraid of guide services stocking them on private land for business purposes since hog hunting has become kinda popular. They mention both hunting and releasing being banned on the same web page.

Idiots have been known to relocate hogs so they can hunt them.

Well part of the reason for the spread of hogs is because people do trap, travel, and release in new locations. That absolutely goes on.

I think banning hunting is fine idea if they don't have a large population, but no state with any sizeable number of hogs has trapped their way to being hog free. In short, trapping, like hunting, has not proven to eradicate the population ever. So applying equal logic, they should not be trapping, either. The only state that has come close is Colorado and they had less than 2000 hogs, IIRC, when they started and it took them a long time to eradicate them and they went at it full bore with hunting, trapping, helicopters, etc. All Kentucky is doing is removing the drive for people to spread feral hogs by trap, travel, and release.

Many states have done this and just for the reason stated. They don't want folks bringing them in to hunt.
