Last season I bought the ikon season pass, seasons before I have rolled with Taos "value" pass that has blackout days. This season I got the Taos Kachina pass, no blackout days, also bought a copper mountain 5 day pass. Looking at the Taos webcam time laps "Highline Ridge", looks like snow flurries started on the 15th and first real dump on the 19th, 18th there was no snow.

I like the new splash page video on the Taos website, screen shot below this part of the video of the Highline Ridge gets me juiced up.

SA is right, the sooner the better. I remember on one ski trip to Squaw Mountain, CA, I was shocked at the number of tiny little kids going down the slopes.

For max enjoyment, I say later than most. I took my girls when they were 4-5. They liked it and we did it every year, but they would have had a better time doing something else up until about 7-8 IMO. But now as adults 2 actually live in Colorado and have been life long skiers and boarders so I guess it worked out.
Two years ago I took my grandson at age 11. Huge difference. I had him on a magic carpet area doing parallel turns in about an hour and going up and down the mountain (greens) easily by early afternoon. Second year, he's getting air on blue runs. At the later ages they are a little tougher about being cold, hungry, needing to pee........He loved it so much I had to make him rest and drink water. He told me we should just bring sandwiches the next day so we could eat while we rode the lift and not waste time in line for food.

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

Great pics Stub, you need to get back out there. You for sure should take lessons tho, especially now that you are old and fat. roflmao

Seriously tho, you never get too good to not take a lesson from a pro. I recommend Taos Ski Week, best coaches in the world many will argue. I did one 2022-23 season, and I plan to do another this season. Its for beginners thru most advanced skiers that want to hike and ski the crazy stuff. When you are young and strong, you can overcome bad technique and tactics, but when you are old and want to ski into your elder years, you need to master these techniques and let the ski do the work.

I and my kids all started around 4. But most ski schools will make them be out of pull ups.

I wouldn’t mess with over populated CO, I’d go north to Idaho, Montana and Wyoming

This is a great video on skiing bumps, Deb Armstrong Taos ski instructor talking, one of the top instructors there. I would say at the end though, the next step is keeping a consistent slow controlled, smooth effortless speed. You don't want to stop on every turn or even have to slow down, but need to be able to if you start going too fast.

First year that we went, I think my son was 10, middle daughter 6, and youngest 4. The 10 year old took to it like a duck to water. The 4 and 6 year old were a bit tougher to deal with, and we had to stay on the greens and contently babysit them. The following year got a little better, and the year after we were really enjoying it. I think 6 is a better age than 4, because it was a PIA for us parents at 4 and 5 years old. But, by age 6, we were chasing her down the mountain instead of dragging her. It would not have been that way without the two years of practice.

Probably as soon as they are old enough to put in a kids ski school program, because that is what you would want to do. And go when the weather is nice, so the kid will have fun with other kids in the snow, and they normally have great kid instructors that know how to make it fun. And while your kid is taking lessons, you need to take lessons, or else you will never be able to keep up with your kid.

Do you remember your first ski trip?

Back in 1975 or1976 I was 19 or 20 years old, my best bud at the time heard on a radio station (I think was the Zoo?) about a special on a ski trip to Keystone.
It was a bus ride round trip with rooms included so off we went. Got off to a rough start on the bus ride, you see the seats did not face the same way, you faced the other people in your section.

About 30 minutes into the ride the couple across from us started beetching at each other non stop until my buddy told them to shut the hell up.
Turns out they met in an airport, I think in Los Angeles and became pen pal boyfriend and girlfriend, yep it did not work out in real life.

Keystone was great had a lot of fun. First time up the lift at the top of the run was a group of older people around 30' ish, they had hollowed ski poles that were filled with Peppermint Schnapps in one and Tequila in the other, like I said Keystone was a lot of fun!.

Started all my kids at age 4. (youngest might have been 3) They are fearless and have such a low center of gravity at that age they pick it up super fast! BTW.. the Ski School at Angel Fire is very good and I highly recommend it. All of our trips started with the kids doing one full day of ski school (even when they hit their teens). This gave the adults one day of kid-free skiing on the mountain, and ensured our kid's got better each year. Even experienced adults benefit from a day or 2 under an instructor each season. I think of it like going to the golf pro for a tune up before hitting the links each spring. Very much worth the $, especially at what it costs to ski these days. Why not make the experience as safe and fun as you can?

To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.

8th grade class trip. High schoolers were chaperones. Chaperones brought liquor and beer. There were a few of us that the chaperones hung out with... drinking... we got caught.

Learned on a couple of small local ski slopes. First trip away from the locals was a weekend at Seven Springs (Pennsylvania). In high school friends and I hit probably every place in OH, PA, and many in NY. Tapered off in college and stopped soon out of college until several years ago. My first trip back was to Tahoe at the beginning of Covid. Came home to empty grocery stores.

Fast forward to today, one of my friends is winding down his global heli-skiing adventures. If you've ever watched any on Youtube you've probably seen him.

I always liked snowmobiling more. During Winter in high school we'd have bon fires at night on the weekends on the golf course - riding and racing on the course was a blast. Those were some of the best times.
