I have a 5.56 with an 18" 1:7 twist barrel. I am considering loading heavier bullets for it as I have other .223 rifles that shoot the 50-60 grainers just fine. These are 75 grain tipped bullets from Mid South and appear to be similar to the AAC Sabre ammo from PSA. Anyone have a favorite recipe for heavies in a 5.56?

Well, that's somewhat unimpressive. Thanks for the post pp.

I wish we could see the same bullet recovered from a soft target from 100yds. At an avg. of 362yds, those results are poor but not surprising really, to me anyway.

I am assuming the bullets were not recovered from a live hog, so they apparently worked good enough.

For just target the 75 aac ammo isn’t bad but hunting I would step up to the 77 TMK, what I used on does last year from 60-250 yards. All bang flop, no bullet recovery, messy Stand1ammo and blk hills loads them. AAC loads to but they been out for a while https://stand1armory.com/product/stand-1-armory-223-77gr-tmk/

I am assuming the bullets were not recovered from a live hog, so they apparently worked good enough. This particular sow was being team shot at extended range , it was a runner. My PSA AAC Sabre Black rounds seemingly didn’t kill the hog while my hunting partners 6.5 Grendel 90 he TNT did expand and were most likely the reason we were able to stop her.

This hunter has had great results on hogs at “typical” hunting distances with the 75 grain Sabre Black - with my results and his I can confidently say they’ll do the job 175 yards and in on medium size game.

That's kinda what I was getting at. 362 or so is far for 5.56 on hogs, 5.56 already being at the small end of acceptable calibers. Of course that's my opinion and as long as hogs are dying, I really don't care what is used. I hadn't watched any of his videos in a while. Not since all the hair was on his head, not his chin. Is he still a cop?

He and I don’t talk Doesn’t keep me from listening to his shows though Personally, I’ve never hunted with 223 as a choice - for years I’ve used wildcats and larger standard calibers for hog hunting I decided to make a personal change and use 223 this year simply based on cost Reloading is uber expensive so I’ve slowed that way down , shooting my on hand reloads or pricey factory ammo at pigs just doesn’t appeal to me. I also bought a large amount of Sabre black 6.5 Grendel - I’m sure that is more appropriate for runners (300+ yard Hail Mary shots)

I also bought a large amount of Sabre black 6.5 Grendel Please let us know how those perform. My son shoots 6.5G at hogs and the SST are usually good but not consistent, for us. Might switch to Sabre if they are better.

Might switch to Sabre if they are better. I might be able to help here. I have shot several hogs with it, mostly small hogs with pass throughs. I managed to shoot a large hog at 190 yards and the bullet mushroomed like a softpoint. I still like TNT 90 gr. better, but for the money, the Sabres did alright.

We've shot a few whitetails and maybe one pig with the Frontier 75 HP's in 5.56. A couple of normal easy recoveries, and one I hit a bit back that left no blood trail and wasn't recovered. We're still shooting them. But we're also talking sub-200 out of blinds. None of this 673 yards at a running animal stuff

I don't have sabre ammo or the 75 gr black tip bullets I was talking about. I was just asking if anyone had a 75 grain *ish* load for a 1/7 5.56 barrel.

I will have to go check my data book, but I am pretty sure that my standard AR load is 23.0 or 23.2gns of 8208xbr, WW brass, cci-400 and 77tmk. Shoots plenty good in my 10.5 and 16” guns. The TMK’s are pretty impressive on soft targets.
Are you going to pull those pistols, or whistle Dixie?
