I currently have a Thunderbeast dominus CB..I switch it between my 16" ar15 6.8 spcII and 20" 300 wsm. I'm looking to add a diligent defense sti or Scythe-Ti. $200 difference not a huge deal at this point, I'd rather buy once cry once. My main concern is FRP. Scythe-Ti has slight edge in weight. I read a review where someone compared the two and said the enticer had less frp on bolt action which would be great on my 300wsm..or I can keep the dominus on the 300wsm and get either/or for the 6.8. Any recommendations here? TIA

First Round Pop

Typically, the first shot is louder as result of oxygen in the suppressor that gets captured/consumed during the initial shot, with subsequent shots being quieter. See the link for more info.

And, it can case shot #1 to land somewhere different from subsequent shots.

OP, Silencerco Scyth. I used one in July on a 28 Nosler. In open air, it was hearing safe. It is small and light.

Thanks for that report J.G. would you recommend running that on the 300wsm and keeping the cb dominus on my 6.8?

I would recommend running the Scythe on everything you have because of how short and light it is. I bought one, but have not completed the application. I may buy a second one.

When you take it out of the box, you feel how light it is. Then you think "no way will this be quiet". But it is quiet.

The main reason is so when I hun with my wife or son, they can use the 6.8 or the 300wsm..we use the 6.8 for deer and 300wsm for nilgai. I could simplify things and get a Ultra 7 since I already have the cb mount on both rifles but want to try something different

A large volume can is going to have more FRP than a small volume can because of the amount of oxygen in it but the smaller can is still going to be louder anyway. After the first round the larger volume cans will have a better sound reduction because of that volume. It’s not something I would worry about personally. If I was in the market for another the Scythe would be a top pick.

It would be great if they all performed equally but it has always come down to there's no replacement for displacement.

On my gas guns my Omegas definitely suffer POI due to FRP, but it's pretty minimal. I've not seen it duplicated on my bolt guns. I have 5 Silencerco suppressors and have been very happy with all of them. The Scythe-TI is on my short list, next go-round.

I have both the suppressors you speak of but I have never noticed a FRP in any suppressor I have owned so I'm likely not the guy you need to listen too. I almost didn't reply for that reason.

There is a lot to be desired between those two suppressors. I think the sti might be the best "budget" suppressor on the market today but I prefer the shorter fatter profile of the Scythe. I don't believe there is much difference in the suppression attributes between the two for my ears...which ring all the time and are not near what they were 20 years ago. confused2

From my engineering buddy...if displacement is your game...the sti has slightly more volume and should be quieter of the two. I think I'd have a hard time picking which one was quieter...one worth mentioning that I would put with those two suppression wise...AB Raptor 8, it might be just a little bit quieter than those two...but all 3 live in the same neighborhood.

This FRP thing is foreign to me, as are "first round cold bore flyers".

I only notice FRP in a 22 silencer right after I have cleaned it. Zero difference in accuracy on multiple different rifles. As for shooting supers in a bolt action rifle, if someone can detect a FRP on a center fire they must be able to hear moles underground like a coyote.

These two five shot groups are from my .223 Wylde and my 6.8, both AR platform, both with Silencerco Omega suppressor. See a pattern?

Is that from FRP or cold bore?

As both of those groups were shot with ARs, I have to ask are all of the rounds chambered the same way (stripped from the mag by the force of the buffer spring)? I have seen the first, or sometimes last, round from an AR have a slightly different POI on multiple occasions (without a suppressor).
