Can someone shed some light on this phenomenon please?

My property is in the hill country, which is known for its robust rock population. I keep most my roads in good condition and some bladed and travel them often. Every now and again, I’ll see a large ( 2-3 lb ) rock just appear in the middle of the road. Saw one today in the middle of the county road that was not there last week.

Can anyone explain this? Is it aliens, Bigfoot, or ghosts leaving these rocks?

Or do they have a way of moving slowly in the night?

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

The hogs pick them up here and play with them. Sticks too. They leave them in the roads all the time.

I know on my ranch roads that cows kick them around. Other than that, no idea.

This.

A clear conscience is often the sign of a fuzzy memory.

I have no cows, but do have hogs.

Maybe that’s what’s doing it

I threw out a couple of tubes of blaze orange tennis balls for my dog several years ago and that night they all disappeared. My lab was always in my sight when he was outside so I knew something else got them. I had game cam pictures of hogs with tennis balls in their mouths for a year. They really like the rocks too. For shifting soil to move a 3 pound rock into a gravel road in a short period of time it would take something like an earthquake, flood or a steep slope next to it.

The only soil in that country is what was blown in there. When in palce, it helps to keep the rocks down. When that soil blows away, the two rocks underneath a single rock can push out the one on top. They are everywhere and you just notice the ones on the road.
