I really don’t see the point of this one. I guess it’s a mini 8.6 blackout. Hard to believe there would be any expansion.

Cycling subsonic with expanding 307 grain SUB-X bullet in an AR-15 platform... What's not to like? I'm looking forward to playing with it now!!

Listening to the Hornady podcast now, sounds like special forces types wanted something subsonic that would be effective further than 300 BLK and fit in a AR-15. It'll be interesting to see how it performs in neutral testing, and what rifles its offered in.

I think I'll be sticking to .458 SOCOM myself.
I just started load development for the 410 Grain SUB-X @ 1065 FPS. 1:22 twist stabilized them and they printed a 1.5" group at 50 Yds. And surprisingly enough cycled the bolt without the suppressor.
More testing is needed now that I feel safe putting the suppressor on.
It would be hard to beat a rifle that can reliably send round 1 subsonic then have 8 rounds of 300 Grain JSP @ 1990 FPS as follow up shots.

I've loaded .458 SOCOM supers, but never subs.

The supers were quite impressive at how they grouped and the velocity they made.

It is a neat cartridge.

I'll probably never own but seems much more interesting than 8.6 blackout to me.

Interesting. I think the 8.6 Blackout has more to offer although I’m not really interested in subsonic rifle suppression. If I was, I think the 300 Blackout would be plenty. The 8.6 Blackout is relying on a 1 in 3 twist to get bullet expansion. I believe the 338 ARC is 1 in 8.

The 8.6 blackout just always seemed too strange to me. The barrel twist requirement is strange. I get the explanation behind it but still weird to require a very unique twist. Also, I barely know anything about subsonic loading but seems like one doesn't need that much case capacity so why not in a ar15 based system. No real evidence for this thought, just a gut hunch.

Seems intriguing, appears it would put a good deal more energy on target than the 300BO.
I would like to try some subsonic heavy projectiles in my 450 Bushmaster...
So many new cartridges and only so much time to play...
