I was looking at property near Goree and found out a solar farm is being built within 10 miles or less and based on what I can find, it’s close to 5k acres. Tough to say from the map posted online, but I don’t think it’s going to butt up to property we looked at, but it’s going to be close. Anyone hunt close to one the monstrosites and if so, how has it affected hunting in your area?

Do you have a link to the map posted online?

I’ll look into it for you

I would think it could be to your advantage by pushing them off that property and maybe into yours.

If it is close enough to see it, then it will affect your property value, and not in a good way.

Meh, we have a 3000 acre solar farm about 5 miles from us and can't tell any impact at all - including property values. Totally fenced in so the deer likely just resettled to adjacent properties. I would much rather have a solar farm in the area than wind turbines. Turbines are much more obtrusive to both sight and sound, even though their footprint is smaller.

We are a year past the construction phase of the wind farm project on my Putnam Place and are now in the production phase. I was initially worried about how the hunting would be affected but my hunters, who have been with me for years, were happy and had no complaints. Fast forward to this year. A massive solar project broke ground next to me. Acre after acre of habitat have been dozed, hunters kicked off, and deer have had to look for new homes. My hunters tell me that they have never seen so many deer on the place, Looks like my protein bill is going to be a little higher! I think you will be happy with your "new" neighbor.

I can see no less than a dozen of the windmills about a mile away from that project just south of Moran out the front window of one of my blinds. I’m actually hoping they put a bunch up on the 400 acres just across the highway where we hunted for 8 years until it was sold. Need to run those deer to my side!

Windmills won’t bother the deer.

I’d rather see windmills than thousands of acres of solar panels. I guess I’m just used to my tinnitus, I never hear the windmills.

I'm opposite. I had a turbine farm built on the place next to mine. All I hear is whoosh whoosh all the time & see those god forsaken things. At least wind a solar farm you don't hear them or see them if you are further away or they have cover along the fences.

They are building one here in Bandera. Around 1000 acres. I am about 8 miles from it and can see what they are doing. Got all the trees cut down and are now burning them and grading the land. They have been taken to court several times but doesn't seem to have stopped them. They said that the project has a 35-year life spand and at the end of that time they will take everything down and return the land to its natural state. I personally think that is BS, but I won't be around to verify it.

Huge load of BS.

Companies that will go bankrupt when the subsidies stop won't be around to reclaim anything.

all one has to do is look at is how much money Big Oil has, and how many unplugged wells are on the Rail Road Commission's orphan well list waiting to be plugged, to see that the reclamation clauses of those solar leases are a complete bullshyte.

Can't believe Bandera County is allowing 1000 acres of prime Hill Country to be developed into a solar farm. Breaks my heart to see that

Are you saying land owners can do what they want with their own land?

How about how I tell you how to manage your land where your home is?

Seem fair does in not?

These solar and wind farms directly affect the neighboring property owners. It's a touchy subject as far as private property rights go.

Doesn’t affect hunting unless you need their acreage. They do make great neighbors, very little traffic and taut and tall fences!!! If they are up stream from you, it’s a bigger blessing as you will get more run off. Overall Doesn’t bother me. We share a couple miles of fence with one. Now if our lease gets turned into one, it will sux but I don’t blame the land owners one bit. Show me a way through ag for 6k acres to pay 3 million a year and adjust for inflation yearly. Doesn’t exist

Neighbors matter. Gun range opened next to a friends rural place and he has to listen to that crap. He talked to a realtor and used the info to devalue his land for property taxes.

There is one about 10 miles from me and I can vaguely hear shots.

Not sure about the big windmills. So far, none near me but, I wouldn’t want to look at them every day.

I worked at the largest solar farm , at the time, in Texas and it had no impact. Deer and pigs got use to it like anything. Its very little noise. Only issue is trucks going in and out. They have deep pockets and help with roads and water.

Windmills are 1000% more intrusive. We have both up here and the wind farms can be seen from 20-40 miles away. Your rights end at the tip of your nose so sure, you can sell out for the man but you're still crapping on your neighbors with a wind farm. The solar farm nearby is pretty small and doesn't seem intrusive at all.

Pass the gravy.

'Wasn't to a wind farm, it's was just to a nice couple that were new to the area, but crapping on two different arrogant azzes that were on two sides of me, that both wanted it badly, was immensely satisfying. banana2

I have rural property but live in town, 70 miles away. There are big electrical transmission towers and lines cutting across the place, about 3/4 mile from the house. About 500 yards long. Doesn’t bother me. I plant wheat for deer, have a heckuva lot of wild blackberries, etc. on that area.

They seldom come and check it and I have permission to lock gates at both ends to keep poachers/sight seers, etc. from driving through. I keep them locked. No problem.
