I have a Tikka roughtech in 300WSM. Looking into replacing the factory recoil pad (which sucks). My question is has anyone ever used a Backstop recoil pad from Backfire and is it worth the $50.00 more than the Limbsaver pad.

Before I change the recoil pad and put a break on my Tikka 300 wsm it was a man killer at the shoulder end. I went with a limbsaver and it's fine.

My T3 came with the Tikka Limbsaver and it works great. 270 but it is a lightweight rifle, and recoil is barely noticeable at the range. I use slip-on Limbsavers on certain milsurps to add some LOP and they work well too.

Backstop !!
They look kinda funky but they are way better reducing felt recoil on boomers. I believe they do make a quick fit for the Tikkas. Get one and let us know. All other recoil pads are just too solid to really work.
The Roughneck might have enough muzzle meat to have threaded for can or brake.

There is nothing I would pay $50 over a limbsaver for...Kickezz, Pachmayr or Limbsaver is what I have always went with.

Ive watched enough reviews and tests on it to know it works so much better than a hard, sticky limbsaver. Most pads are for looks and have no functional qualities whatsoever.
My advice, thread it and can it.

My advice, thread it and can it. You did not just pull a trashcan Dan on us...did ya? Also, recoil pads have a very functional role...that was you digging. My daddy always said "son, you find yourself in a hole...best advice I can tell you is first to quit digging." Just stop Buzz...say no and move on.

I like the Limbsaver Airtech and have it on my Tikka. I haven't tried the Backstop but would love to try one. I'm interested if it really reduces muzzle flip and felt recoil as much as they claim.

My $0.02 worth, if it has a recoil pad on the stock, put a brake on instead. My 300 WSM nick name was the mule. As it kicked liked one. I added an Area 419 brake and the problem was solved. With the same universal Area 419 mount, I upgraded to a Thunder Beast Ultra Seven suppressor. My 300 WSM is an absolute pleasure to shoot now. Best of luck on your project.
Distance is not the issue, but the winds can make it interesting!

So the Backstop has a 'protector' that you use for storage. How often are you going to lose that and have to replace it? Can I take it off on Friday night and put it back on when I put it back in the case Sunday, or does it go on/off every time a I hunt? What needs to be 'protected'?

From their website: A standout feature of the Backstop Pad is its patent-pending "throne" protector. Most companies design pads to be way too stiff so they won't deform when stored butt-down in a gun safe for extended periods. Each Backstop Pad includes a hard-plastic protector you can slip on during long-term storage so your pad retains its bounce, and so we don't have to compromise your pad's design. Website

So essentially, they made it extremely soft/flexible, hence the increased performance.
