I’ve seen it several times but have never been able to get a picture. The game cam got several pics of it.

Cool pics, turkeys come in several colors and are cool when you see the less common ones. I think there would be more of the color phase ones but they do not hide from predators as well as the standard colored ones.

A turkey farm a couple of miles away was destroyed in a tornado and a several hundred domestic ones ended up in the woods here. They interbred with wild ones and there were a bunch that were predominantly white with black tips on the feathers. They eventually were bred out by the native turkeys.

I was surprised to learn that domestic turkeys were originally indigenous to Mexico but are no longer found in the wild. Imagine if they were? Then the turkey slam would include 1 more than it does.

Very cool!

I've seen a handful of smoke phase turkeys in my years. They definitely stand out!

Back in early 70's a turkey truck turned over between Bastrop and Lockhart on Highway 86.
Looked like it snowed turkeys and feathers.
There are still a few predominately white turkeys running around the woods in this area.

Had a solid white hen last year showing up, but she hasn’t been seen in 2024. [Linked Image]
