I remember way back in the day, Speer sold factory loaded ammo. They used the nickel cases. The necks would split after a couple loadings. Anyone load them?

In 357, yes. Never noticed any difference from plain brass.

45 Colt. Nickle designates my Ruger only loads. My brass case loads can be shot in anything.

Only in .357 and only in the past. Someone wanted my plated brass more than it was worth to me. It doesn't spring back as much and therefore cracks easier as Buzz mentioned. It's also prone to chip around the mouth.

Pass the gravy.

I load it when I come across it. I don’t think it’s anything special though.

I think it does split with fewer reloads than straight brass, but I load it and shoot it till it fails. I’ve never paid any attention to how many reloads I can get from brass and plated. I do think I have some brass non-plated 38 cases that I’ve shot since the 80’s. Just a few, but I can tell from the trace of fingernail polish I used to put on the base (for what reason I don’t remember).

I load both handgun and rifle nickel plated brass. Great for differentiation of similar cartridges ie 270/30-06 or in handguns, smaller boolit diameter,(handgun versus rifle) 357 mag. Yes they seem to fail sooner

I used to reload all my self defense/HP rounds in 45ACP just for quick identification. They did seem to give the ghost after 5-6 trips to the bench.

They are harder to trim. Nothing against them but not really fond of them.

I’ve never tried, can they be annealed?

I guess my favorite thing about these cases is that they are easier to spot and gather at the range! laugh

It's a metal on a metal.

Why can't metals be annealed?

The lowest temperature a nickel alloy can be annealed is 1300° F. Doable yes, but the underlying brass it’s plated to would be trashed I think.

It's a metal on a metal.

Why can't metals be annealed?

But will it affect the plating? I don’t know. I’m sure like usual that makes me a stupid lib right.

I have an MTM box with 50 Winchester plated 357 magnum cases. They have 7-8 cycles on them without any problems. The plating is starting to get thin but they load and shoot fine. They are the only plated cases I have.

Anneal the brass at the normal temp. See what happens to the Nickel. It might be fine, it might flake off.

I scrap Nickel plated brass. But if a guy needed to keep it, it's worth a try. See what you see.

Nope, i throw them away or give them to someone who can use them, yes they split, only brass here
for our needs. I dont like change, keep it simple. it works.

.38 special and .44 Mag. Reload them. On pistol cases I have not had to trim so I cant say if the plating effects that. I once got distracted and left a batch in the SS tumbler. After 10 hours I could see that the plating was starting to wear a little thin on a couple. Loaded and shot fine.

If I have them, I shoot them once and then leave the cases on the ground. Nicel cases are pretty to look at, but I won't reload them. JMHO

Reload Nickel Plated all the time for my 458 SOCOM, 7mm-08 and 45 acp.

Yes, they don't last as long as regular brass....but easily get 5-6 reloads before seeing any flaking around the case mouth. No splitting.

I've got some nickel plated 38 spl that have been loaded so many times you can start to see the brass . In this case it has been light loads for cowboy action shooting.

I have 50 or so 7mm RM ni plated cases that are on their 12 loading. BUT, I neck size only, and am only pushing them about 2850, so not top end loads. Over the last decade I have only lost a couple to necks splitting.

I have reloaded straight wall pistol cases, do get flaking and cracking after a few reloads. But still cost effective to reload them.
