I got this barrel, it’s an unfired factory savage barrel and I pulled the thread protector to find this. It just doesn’t look right to me, don’t know if I’m overthinking it but thought I would see.
16” barrel? If so, it looks to me whoever threaded it goofed up so moved further back and treaded it correctly but since it’s a 16” barrel they couldn’t cut that little nub off otherwise it would hav turned into an SBR barrel?
I'm curious what Savage says...I've never seen muzzle threads like that. Hard to believe that got to QC. Hopefully there is a reason, please keep us posted.

Looks like a mess no matter what. I have seen muzzle devices that had a short thread length. It is possible that a brake like that was screwed on and didn't hit the shoulder, then the barrel was altered. SRS makes brakes that can be that way at times, I have had to finish threading more than one of them.
Yes, I only have the barrel, bought it from Northlanders, one that they pulled off for a build. It’s off a 110 trail hunter that had the tungsten cerakote. Cerakote does not look like it has had any marks since being applied, which makes me assume it came from savage that way.
Here’s a pic of the same model off savages website. Looks like the threads don’t make it to the end of the thread protector, so maybe not a fluke.
I have always liked Savage Rifles because they are just accurate. Always. I even have one still. But things like this...the lack of quality control have turned me off over the last few years. I've pretty much sworn off buying another savage, ever.
Does savage have a break that times with a set screw?
Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, b/c they know not victory nor defeat"- #26 TR
As long as your muzzle device shoulders properly and square, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. That being said, this may not be a Savage issue and could easily be an issue with Northland Shooters if they removed a muzzle device that was previously installed.

If you look at the two pics of the end of the barrels, they both look the same, ones off savage website, and the other is my barrel. There’s no contact on the threads at the front of the thread protector. I would say that the pic off the web has the taper as mine. Threads are good, the protector screws down to the shoulder and is tight. Just wondered why it would look like that.
