My Ranger will be 4 years old in December. I have 2500 miles now and it drives/rides like it's brand new. I would be more worried about if the previous person parked it in a covered area, if the bottom looks like it's been rock crawling a lot, number of previous owners and the age of the person you're buying from. Young folks typically rag on them, Ma and Pa Kettle typically don't. Get the electronic power steering too.

Oh yea, not interested in anything that’s had a lift or looks like it’s been ragged on. Seen a lot with around 5k miles, but that seems like a lot to me.

one thing i look for is mileage divided by hours. i prefer a clean unit with low mph on it. i believe it was driven by a more mature person versus a young speed demon

Several years ago I was looking to buy my first UTV, I questioned many UTV mechanics, independents, dealers and individuals. I ask 2 questions, what was the best UTV on the market? I had 3 consistent brands. Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki. Honda and Yamaha were one and two. Not necessarily in that order. 2nd question, what is engine life expection? Mechanics with brand school training were consistent with 2000 to 4000 hours. Most said RPMs determined life.

There are a ton of Rangers running great with over 5K hours. Polaris also owns the market in UTV sales with over 30%. Following at a distance are Honda, Kawasaki and Can Am. The others are small percentages in comparison.

X2 on determining average speed. That said, on my own Ranger the average speed will be high compared to others. Our place is huge, 24 sq miles with very long drives from one end to the other. We have good roads and I can easily sustain 30 MPH for long stretches of travel. I'd think most of the time moving along at 10 mph or less is how most are used.
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

If you have a mechanical problem; don’t take it to a dealership. They hire make ready people; not mechanics. One of my Hondas had trouble starting after I had ridden it a couple of miles. I walked back to the house several times. Once it cooled down, it was ok. I took it to 3 different dealerships with no positive results but spent $$$.
Then, I took it to Mikes Off Road in Fort Worth. He has a large shop and mostly works on 4 WD vehicles. When I described the problem, he said it sounded like a solenoid. He was right. No problem since.
I expect I would have gotten the same results at a real motorcycle repair shop.
I’ve been riding these things for many years. Agree about Yamaha and Honda being the most reliable.

I don’t take anything to a shop for work, I’ve been doing mechanic work all my life and professionally for 20yrs, I don’t even trust people to change my oil. lol

not sure on the gas rigs, cut I had a service manager tell me the Kubota RTV diesel engines are good for at least 4500 hours, possibly more, with proper service. I've seen a few past the 6000 mark

If you buy a Kawasaki FXT-PRO 820 they will run forever and you won't have to worry much about repairs like you do with Polaris. They come with a 3yr full warranty and Kawasaki will sell you up to 5yrs more FACTORY warranty.

I'm at 4k miles on my 2021 Ranger XP1000, zero issues. I service it myself regularly (All fluids/filters/grease etc.) and don't notice any difference in the way it performs now and when it was new.

It has over 4000 hours on it and still runs/pulls/hauls great. Have only done regular maintenance, battery and tires. It has also lived outside its entire life - never spent a single night under a roof. That includes living outside through 15 Canadian winters - although have to triple glow it sometimes when real cold to get it to start. Only item i replaced other than regular stuff was the bench seat as it was wood backed and rotted out last year.
