WTS - Interarms Mark X in 6mm-284

I swapped into this rifle right here on THF about eighteen years ago, I think. It was a pretty ugly rifle then---the stock was Hideous with a capital "H", but I found it pretty easy to load for right off the bat. It shot 70-grain Ballistic Tips, 95-grain Partitions, and 90-grain Accubonds fairly well---usually hovering around MOA. When I tried 80-grain TTSXs in it, I was astounded. Load 'em up warm with H1000 and it puts three in around an inch at 200 yards...I wish I'd tried those first!

Like I said, it was not an attractive rifle when I acquired it, but this B&C Medalist stock really dressed it up. The finish is all factory and is in very nice condition (I think the rifle was originally chambered in .243 and the barrel was removed, shortened to 23 inches, and reinstalled and rechambered). Besides replacing the stock I replaced the Interarms trigger with a Timney. This rifle has the highly desireable pushbutton floorplate release as well. It's a pretty darned good looking rifle these days.

The only thing wrong with the rifle is the location of the scope mounting holes. It seems to have been offset a bit, so I have always used Burris Signature Zee rings on it and that has been a 100% effective cure. I will leave the steel Warne mounts on the rifle and include a set of Signature Zee rings if you like. The ones on the rifle at present are a 30mm set, but I think I have a 1-inch set as well. My price does not include the Bushnell Nitro 4-16x44 scope, but I'll make you a good deal on it if you want it with the rifle.

I am not looking for swaps, I am trying to depopulate my gun safe...BUT, certain items might tempt me (a nice S&W M41, a Delta Elite if it's proven accurate, 4-inch S&W revolvers, things like that). I am still interested in a nice bolt gun in .260 (just NOT a Savage or Tikka) with a classic-style stock and a barrel length of at least 22 inches but I can live without it. Feel free to throw swap ideas out there if you care to.

$625 cash, FTF in the north Fort Worth area. I am willing to ship, but in strict accordance with the law and at your expense and in which case a check, money order, or Zelle are acceptable forms of payment.

Up for Thursday night.

I have checked twice, as carefully as I can...the twist rate appears to be 1:9.75.

I don't know what it was supposed to be nominally, but they may have called it 1:9.5---hard to say. If someone had something like a 1984 edition of Gun Digest, the listed twist rate may be there. Like I said, I believe the original barrel was chambered in .243 but rechambered to 6mm-284.

If this rifle does not sell, I'll happily keep it and use it and just sell the .30-06 I am tentatively planning to keep and use (don't want to do that, though...the '06 is a lucky rifle!). The last bullet I tried in this one is the 80-grain TTSX pushed with H1000. The last three loads charged with 61.5, 62.0, & 62.5 grains of powder gave me three-shot groups measuring 0.92, 1.07, and 0.95 inches AT 200 YARDS (velocities from 3594 to 3658 fps). I think I can live with that!

This one is off the market.

It appears that few are willing to take a chance on something like a 6mm-284 and I guess I can understand that. I've decided to just send this one to Pac-Nor and rebarrel it to .260 Remington. Going with a 24" sporter #2 contour and polygonal 8 twist. I could have selected 7.5 or even 7, but not with the polygonal rifling...and the longest bullets I use (142-grain ABLR) like an 8 twist, so I should be golden. Someone suggested rebarreling my Model Seven (in 6mm Rem which is still for sale) to .260 but I didn't want to remove a perfectly good Krieger barrel from that one. If I'm going to own only one bolt action rifle for hunting I'd rather it be a 98-pattern rifle than a Remington anyway.

My Model 70 in .30-06 will be listed soon. That's the one I really wanted to keep, but I think I'll love this Mark X once it comes back to me as a .260, and that little voice that's been nagging and urging me to shop for a bolt action in .260 can finally shut up.
