It has been a long time since I have had to F with them, but Chiggers #1 for me, followed by biting flies, those quick little bastages are hard to swat bang

Chiggers and ticks for me, although we have all of those menaces. When I go out (which is all the time), I wear water proof rubbers that go all the way up to the bottom of the knee. They get sprayed every morning with 40% Deet.

Ticks for me. Never forget a hunting trip to OSB when I was in high school. First two hunts we picked 30-40 ticks off each other. Heavy doses of off slowed them to 5-10 a hunt. These are big on not just crawling. never itches so bad in all my life!

Chiggers aren’t too tough anymore, I figured out how to deal with them.

We have a lot of copperheads out here. I hate to kill them but I’d hate stepping on one more.

As my backside is usually covered when I'm outside, that rules out everything but ticks and chiggers.

I got tick fever, starting the first week after closing on this ranch, 5+ years ago now. Neuropathy on my back, etc., for well over two weeks. Kinda scary. Tested negative for Lyme's; it's rare in Texas. I hate those little bastards with a purple passion now. Nuke myself with spray quite regularly and will probably develop the big C from that crap. i avoid rubbing past cedar branches as much as I possibly can now. 'Haven't really got into chiggers in decades.

You left off fleas. You get too close to the right dead pig and voilà, you'll soon be getting buck-nekid outside the house trying to find the devils, then taking several hot showers. ('Glad I didn't have guests. blush )

Mosquitoes don’t like me. Haven’t had chiggers in years but they are easy to take care of. Biting flies don’t seem to care about deet

Perceived or real pain in the backside?

I have an irrational FEAR of spiders. Just the thought of one dropping from a tree or overhead in a blind, easing down its web, and landing right between my shoulderblades and sucking the life out of me is unbearable. Everyone but me thinks its HILARIOUS when I run into a web.

So yeah, spiders are my perceived pain, and I think chiggers are the real pests on the list.

Never been bit by a chigger in my life and poison ivy doesn't affect me, something in my blood. The other side to that is a mosquito will fly across the state if he knows I'm outside.

Chiggers seem to be attracted to my gronadals, but I hate getting hit by a scorpion or wasps. The last 2 didn't make it to the list so I must be a wuss.

I would add fire ants to the list. They attack in numbers. More than once my pants have come off looking for those devils.

Talking about spider webs. Back in my Border Patrol and Customs Patrol/Agent days I used to walk the USDA Mounted Agricultural Officers (Tick Riders) trails along the Rio Grande River where they patrolled to keep Mexican cattle out of the country. Mexican cows carry all sorts of diseases. Anyway, there were some of the most humongous spider webs across those trails. Actually found a sparrow caught up in one. Broke the web, but I'm not sure if it survived or not. I never went back out the same way I came in. Those webs were made by big ole black spiders close to the same size as a tarantula . I get creep out just thinking about that.

Had a run in with those gnats last summer. Never experienced anything like it in my life. Like an Irwin Allen disaster movie!

Dang shame that “my wife” wasn’t an optional choice. I love her, yes I do, but someday the coroner is gonna answer Cause of Death with ‘he was married’.

The state bird is the mosquito down here, but since Helene, it's spiders. The surge pushed everything that cannot fly, like spiders, to the high ground and especially towards structures. This is a pic I took of the front door of a nearby building the morning after the storm. There are literally thousands of spiders covering the stoop, walls, sandbags, etc, and some are brown recluses. It's quite unnerving to open the door and have a spider almost drop on you. eeks333 flame

I don’t like spiders of any kind. That would totally freak me out.
