Hunted some public land this morning on the Collin County side of the Collin / Rockwall County complex. Never fired a shot. Saw a couple of birds scoot down a tree line but that was the property line and couldn't shoot towards them. A few guys down the field from us took a couple of shots... Maybe it will be better this evening.

Dove on public is pretty tough, especially around the metro mess.

If I were chasing dove on public, I would try the lakes. You probably will not find their food source there, but they do drink there, and they roost in the trees, and you can pattern them and find their flyways. Set up in the flyaways and smoke'm. Probably have a lot more luck there than the crappy public fields.

Ya, honestly this hunt was just a by product of buying the annual permit. I wasn't expecting anything great, but the field is 15 minutes from my house so why not. Sitting in a field beats doing chores.

I’ve had better luck on the public places down in the Valley.

Went to the valley for the second weekend white wing only hunt. It was a paid hunt, not public but wow! We were covered up in mourning doves in sunflowers, but when the white wings started flying, it was awesome! But that is a bit of a drive from the Dallas area.

Dove on public is pretty tough, especially around the metro mess. That’s right find a mud flat, set up piles of robos decoys about 5:30pm and get you a few

Was out deer hunting on public last night. Just at dark I had more doves come in to water than I've seen on public in the last 50 years. Not gonna say where. It's my spot. Just that I was surprised at the number of doves. Wouldn't have been a limit but it would be close. It's me shooting after all...
No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.

With the cool front coming through, I may go out and try again this weekend.

It was slow. But i was mostly scouting. No bucks, not many rubs and no scrapes. Much of the Beauty Berry and vine had the ends chewed off so something was browsing. But it is a sparse area. Did see does moving in the middle of the day. Not a lot of hog sign.
