A nephew had lived in Panama City most of his life, but got tired of hurricanes and the threat of them. Moved to Kansas for two years, and then back to Panama City. Hated Kansas.
Granddaughter is married to an Army Major, and they were stationed on Oahu. She came to hate Oahu, then they were stationed at Fort Hood, which seemed Ok. Then stationed in Kansas, and in 2 years she’s screaming to go back to Oahu.
Two years in Kansas must not be that great.
Anybody feel the need to defend Kansas?
Not my monkeys, not my circus...

I remember my Dad saying, when I was younger that of all the places he lived, Kansas was the worst. He lived in 46 of the 50 states throughout his life, so there may be something to it.

My buddies dad was in many places all over during WW2,Europe, N. Africa etc. Then drove trucks all over the U.S.A and said the coldest place he ever was, was in Kansas.

I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect. Some people live an entire lifetime & wonder if they ever made a difference in the world, a veteran doesn't have that problem. Reagan

I was in Kansas City early August. Seemed like a pretty nice place compared to Dallas. Not a lot of traffic, weather was a little cooler and thug factor appeared fairly low in the downtown area.

Fort Leavenworth (the good side) was probably my favorite duty station. 30 minutes to KC, huge Cabela's (before it sucked), independent minor league baseball, Kansas Speedway, on and on. I love Kansas.
P.S. There are no deer in Kansas...

I would pick Kansas over a lot of places in Texas but I am OK with wide open spaces.

When Covid lockdowns hit, we packed our stuff (office and all) and moved to the ranch. 250 acres of just us. We were there for about 6 months. Amost no visitors, rarely even caught a glimpse of anyone outside a few select family and the neighbors. My wife was going bat chit crazy. She needed the socialization. I didn't. I loved it.

Kansas was one of my territories while I was a RSM, it was not a fun place to be. Wichita was boring and Olathe/Kansas City just meh. I actually liked Houston and OKC better.

The part I drove through was wheat fields for miles. Like I couldn’t see anything past them. Kinda cool looking.

have hunted there several times - pretty isolated in most areas and not much going on - for folks who like to be alone and away from everything and/or gamble it is a good choice - hunting is good however

I wish I had thought more about where we wanted to live when my wife retired. I had my heart set on west Texas for years, but the influx of illegals killed that. Kansas would have been a good fit for me as I like isolation and very few people around. But here we are in sweltering East Texas. Ol well..

So far this year, the longest I've managed to stay inside my fence has been 7 days straight. And I was home without my wife and daughter. I would rather have them here. But, I my goal is to break the record of 7 days. I would have been fine out there, like you were. My bet is the only thing I would not like about Kansas would be the winter cold. Lack of people and isolation? Fine by me.

Chad...your son is a Shocker????? That would be a cool college to go too just because they are the shockers One of my best friends that I coached youth baseball with forever was a Shocker pitcher in the 70s. He was good but of course arm problems.

I have been there several times, I could live there, but then I like deer, dogs, good Bourbon, and about three people, so there is that...my wife would never live there, she is from far west Texas and has had her fill of isolation in the great open spaces.

Never been but the prospect of few people is appealing. Grew up in a small town that got swallowed up from all directions, as a kid never thought I would want to leave and now glad to be out and couldn’t imagine still being there. I’d probably miss trees in Kansas and enjoy the cold here but that might be too cold.

There's a helluva golf course in Garden City, Buffalo Dunes, top 25 public courses in the U.S. When I played it I got about 15 riders (hit the ball far enough to ride to it), pretty exciting.

I’ve read the deer population isn’t nearly what it used to be In some places, I'm sure that's true. Mostly because the Outdoor Channel has convinced all the Fudds that there's a Booner lurking behind every tree. But Kansas will always produce big deer. I've hunted south Kansas off and on since 2006 and have a few dandies to show for it.
