I don’t have any first hand experience. But a good friend was diagnosed and had his prostate removed. There are some side issues with that decision.

I've never had it but have several clients and friends that have. Some went the hormone therapy route, others went the radiation route, and one went with prostate removal. Really depends on the type of prostate cancer. Rarely will it be what kills a man. Usually men will die with prostate cancer rather than from it. USMD and UPNT have very good urologists and oncologists. I wish you well!

Your situation is unique as every case is. If your urologist will recommend it, and insurance will pay for it, I'd get Proton Therapy. It is a specialized radiaiton treatment tnat minimizes damage to healthy tissue. Insurance doesn't like to pay for it because it is more expensive. I had IMRT radiation for mine. BCBS refused to pay for proton therapy. I appealed it several times but they don't like paying for some treatments if there is a cheaper alternative. I have two friends that had a radical prostatectomy. They were more advanced than mine. Both had issues caused by the surgery. I have some issues, but not as severe as them. PM me if you want to visit further. Treatments are tailored to your specific case and whether or not the cancer has escaped the gland. I hope they caught yous early. Good luck to you.

I don't have prostate cancer but have some experience with family members who have.

As alluded to above, each and every case can be different. A good urologist should be able to determine what kind of treatment is appropriate.

P/C runs the gamut of being something you shouldn't give that much thought to (with treatment), to potentially life threatening (depending on many factors).

Prostate Cancer is not a 'type' of cancer. It denotes the location of the cancer. The cancer itself can be very slow growing or can be an aggressive type. Naturally, it is best caught early before it has a chance to spread to bone or organs.

Various treatments are available and the vast majority of men will perish from something else, long before P/C.

Regardless of which treatment you decide on, good luck and I hope it works.

i used to work for an older guy that had had prostate cancer. I knew him for at least 20 years, and old age got him finally, not the cancer. And medicine has made big strides since then.

Good.

No doubt your Doctor will suggest the most appropriate treatment(s) for you to choose from.

Study up on the subject and it will help to put your mind more at ease about it.

It is a common malady among men....and quite treatable in most cases.

Proton therapy if you can get it. Had a coworker do it a couple of years ago and he said it was a breeze.
