With the Bastrop show coming up in 2 weeks, I had to get some knives done for the table. I put some planning into how to finish a big batch of knives as efficiently as possible. I started with 9 laser cut blanks in 80CRV2 Friday afternoon. I drilled holes, hardened at full thickness, and tempered on Friday night.

Saturday morning when I was "fresh" I did all the grinding. I did bevels and tapered tangs, then switched over to my plunge grinding attachment. I set the plunges at 220 grit, then used the attachment to get out all the 120 vertical scratches so that all there was on the bevels was 220 lengthwise scratches.

Then I did a ferric etch for about 30 minutes, then about an hour in the tumbler. Here was the result early Saturday afternoon.

The rest of the day Saturday was spent fitting and gluing up handles. I did finish out the handle on one also. Today was handle day. I rough shaped all at 120, then cleaned them all up at 220. Then 400 on the spines. Back in the etch to even out the spines, then back in the tumbler to even out the finish.

Here's the final result: 9 knives in a weekend. I still have time, but I've switched to sheaths for today.

The 6" patterns will be 175 and the 8" patterns will be 275. I will presell, and should have some on the table at the show as well.

It would be interesting to see who chose which one... a little something for each to choose from

For sure. The market is weird right now, with high end stuff not going anywhere. I intentionally shot for a lower price point and alot of variety on this batch. Have to move some product to keep the system going!
