I remember exactly where I was on 911, when Reagan was shot and when RFK was killed.
I don’t remember JFK, I was too young.
When my grandparents were still alive, they told me exactly where they were when they heard about Pearl Harbor being attacked.

When JFK was shot, I was in the school yard standing next to a big Waxed leaf Ligustrum. When 911 happened, I was driving to Port Arthur from Houston, and stopped for gas at the Texaco in Winnie. I was watching their TV but barely comprehending.

I don't forget. I usually post this early, early on 9/11 but was hoping to see it here already.

I had the day off, woke up late, turned on the news and was blown away. I was in Abilene Tx at the time.

Before Obama, no racial strife, no war on Cops, no "What can my country do for me". Police, Fire and Military appreciated and supported. Americans helping Americans, the Stars and Stipes flying at full staff everywhere you turned.

I guess you weren’t around in the late 60’s, with Watts burning, the Black Panthers, the SDS. It was pretty nasty back then. In some ways, it was more militant than now. I remember coming back to New Orleans (our home at the time) in 1971, straight from the Marines. My wife said I was on edge and looking for a fight. Had a Jarhead haircut when everybody else had long hippie hair. Said I wasn’t the guy she married, but I got back to being me in about 6 months. I did have one all out brawl on Royal Street on Mardi Gras Day. I won.

I was an MP for a time at Pendleton. There was a lot of racial strife then. We never went out alone with our night stick, Mace, and 5 bullets for our WWI 1911AI’s. Still have my whistle, hanging in the workshop.

And I didn’t even go to Viet Nam. You guys that did, I wish you peaceful days and nights.

^^ I was just a kid, but it was scary. Confusing and scary. I had an older friend that was in the bad stuff on the ground in Vietnam; class.of '64 out of the A&M Corp. Tough, short old.man. A true patriot in every sense of the word.
