Got a friend that wants a started dog that ranges 50 yards. Any pointing breed. Where is a good place to find one. He is a road hunter only gets out when he sees blue quail on the ground

Considering a pointing lab but not to wild about a lab for desert quail

Blues will run further than 50 yards when pushed.

50 yard pointing dog… hmm.

In my opinion the best place to look would be among the roughed grouse hunters up north. A boot polisher that hunts close enough to keep up using nothing more than a bell on their collar plays in those thick early successional timber stands where roughed grouse are hunted. There are sought after lines of pointing dogs bred to be close working. Not so much here in Texas. Best bet to find a 50 yard pointer in Texas would be a dog someone is looking to get rid of for not having enough run.

Yes. Drive slow while looking for birds in productive cover and dont waste time in unproductive cover
