Well, it happened. The Dogcatcher finally got caught. Not many of you know me. Hell, I don't think any of you actually do. My father was Dogcatcher here on THF. Now... a lot of you know him. I say was, because he passed away this last Friday.

You band of heathens, know-it-alls, group of good guys, and arm chair political analyst, and the occasional ______, I'll let you fill in the blank. Yall were special to him. This place helped tie him over the past years with his illnesses. Whether it was antagonizing someone, giving praise, getting deep in the fray of some deep conversation, teaching, guiding or just plain ole communicating; it was entertaining for him and for that, I thank you. And so does my mother.

Dad was an avid hunter. Teaching me his ways. He loved hunting and fishing. He taught me his ways. Then they were our ways. Now, they're my ways that I'll pass onto my kids. Nah, they're still his ways. He would always let me know that, and still will in some form or fashion.

Quick funny story: He shot his last deer around 2010 I believe. Opening day. Right at sunrise. See dad would hunt from the cabin window because his walking wouldn't allow him to walk to the deer stand, or his favorite tree he liked to sit under. Anyway, sunrise, Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt, Op. 23 "Morning Mood", plays in my mind. The morning dew on the wheat sparkles like diamonds. A light fog... and BAM!!! A shot rings out across the county. 20 seconds later. My phone vibrates, because heaven forbid my 63 year old father learn T9 texting and save my opening day. "Got one, pack it up, come gut this deer, take it to the processor, and take me home!" And that's what I did, as I cussed him silently in my head for being the luckiest son of a gun ever. Helluva hunter, helluva guy, helluva father, and grandfather.

And technical. Jesus, so technical. If it was calls that he turned, they were precise. Every time. No matter what. And some were beautiful. The ones that he sold here on THF were made with care and precision. And for those of you that have those, thank you and cherish them.

Speaking of precision. When I found and told him my love for muzzle loading. He was excited because he had never messed with it before. Other than when he was younger. He dove into this art form of rifearms and researched the hell out of it. And my email was blown up from his research. He told me, you have to be precise. Always be precise. Which is not my nature. But I followed him down that precise path and thankful for it.

Anyway, thank you for listening to me. I appreciate it. And dad appreciated all of you! So much that I remember getting a call from him one day as I was traveling for work and he said "I'm gonna have the #1 post count on THF. Just you watch". I did, and he did. I think his exact words were, lemme see if I got this right, "nanny nanny boo boo". Thank you again.

My deepest condolences. He will be missed.

I had the pleasure of meeting your dad and mom in Abilene for lunch when I was out hunting that way. He gave me a couple of predator calls and a really neat wooden handled flat and Phillips screwdriver combo he made. He loaned me a few books which I enjoyed immensely. Very much enjoyed our chats from time to time. He was a very well read, good-hearted man. And he was a Vietnam veteran.

Sorry to hear this as he was a good one here. I met you and him back around 2009 either at a varmint hunt or his house. I went there twice to pick up calls. He was always knowledgeable and helpful with accounting or providing links for diy projects. Thanks for letting us know.

I opened a letter today with a letter opener I got from him a decade ago and I have I don't know how many calls from him.

Bought a couple of his calls when he was still making them and he was super helpful on which ones would give the best results for our area. Marvin will definitely be missed around here-
