WTB or Trade for (maybe, just depends) a bolt gun in .260 Rem #9104832 09/10/24 12:50 AM

What I do NOT want:

Savage or Tikka (Savage sucks, and I just don't like the feel of Tikka rifles, and most Sako rifles as well)
Muzzle brakes
Bigass bolt knobs
Tactical style stocks

What I DO want:

Conventional sporter, or something close
22-inch barrel minimum
TYPICAL Model 70 / 700 / 77 type stuff, or similar
Stainless / blued / walnut / synnthetic---I'm open minded on these questions

Used rifles in .260 Remington seem to be pretty rare. Maybe they never really sold many to begin with, I dunno...I was not interested in the round when it came out but I think I'd like to have just a single big game bolt gun going forward. I am downsizing and simplifying for the remainder of my hunting life and I am pretty set on .260s for my pig guns (ARs). Keeping just one good bolt gun in .260 would really simplify things for me, and that's why I'm kicking this idea around.

I've already sold off a good many of my bolt guns and have a few more to go, so what I could offer in trade would be a bolt gun in 6mm Remington, one in .30-06, one in .280, and one in 6mm-284. I can also just buy yours outright. For any rifle I offer in swap, I can provide high-quality dies and components for including dies, brass, bullets, and maybe even powder. In some cases I just might be persuaded to yield up a few primers.

If you've got a decent rifle in .260 just taking up room in your life and would consider offloading it, let me know and maybe we can make a deal. I'm in the North Texas neighborhood and would prefer a face-to-face transaction, but I can be a fairly reasonable fellow.

How about a Steyr Safebolt/ProHunter? I think it has a 24 inch barrel, blue and wood, but I'd have to measure it to be sure. I'm a fan of the 6.5s but have a half dozen of them and this one is never going to get any use. I'll send a PM with my phone number.

I have not considered a Browning, but depending on exactly what it is I may be interested. A few pics would be nice. However, I have NO interest in the scope...rings and bases, maybe but depends on the type.

I'd also like to know what part of the state you're in.

I currently have four nice bolt-actions, any of which would be a swap candidate if you're interested:

- custom sporter VZ-24 in .280 Remington
- custom Model Seven in 6mm Remington
- Model 70 (later production CRF) in .30-06 Springfield
- custom Mark X in 6mm-284

I kinda had decided that the M70 in .30-06 would be the rifle I hang onto because it's a great shooter and seems to be my lucky rifle---I see more stuff to shoot when I carry it, it seems...but I like the idea of winnowing down to a single cartridge for hog hunting, and my large-frame ARs in .260 are going nowhere. All four of those rifles can go bye-bye as long as I end up with a bolt gun in .260 that I like, but in case no deal on one works out I would happily let the market decide which one I keep. They're all in very nice shape and good shooters. I may get off my arse pretty soon and get them listed pretty soon.

If you like that REM model 7, just rebarrel it to 260 or 260 AI.

That's just not something I want to do for a number of reasons---including $$$.

Still looking.
