Agree with watersnake. The bars on the jaw are probably the quickest way to ID it’s not a cottonmouth.

Not a cottonmouth. The bars on the jaw give it away. Correct. Also, round pupils and lack of heat sensing pit are readily observed in the photo.

Keep your friend around! you have mice or rats around? they will do their
patrol of your property! My older Lab used to kill them, but shes gone now......
