These dogs were born around November last year. They were never intended to be our dogs. A friend of my wife's said she was taking one. Having an acquaintance with the breeder, I reluctantly took the other one "temporarily". Well my wife's friend backed out and the temporary hold for the other dog dissolved as the interested parties never came to see him The W/B dog is Manetto Hill Tater Tot AKA Tate (AKC). He is 39 pounds, will run out to 200-yards if you don't call him in and points with a lot of style usually with a foot up. He does not like a hard/harsh voice but you can fuss with him and put your hands on him no problem. The L/W dog is Manetto Hill Robert AKA Bob (AKC). He's 34 pounds. Bob's range is usually less than 100-yards. He likes to check in and he quarters more than his brother. He points staunchly but keeps all four paws on the ground. He can take a harsh voice as well as handling. He is more vocal than Tate. Bob will bark at a stranger or strange dog or object until you tell him to knock it off. Bob will also "cry" to go outside or get your attention. Both dogs are well trained with kennel, here, whoa, heel, hold and down. The like water a lot. Tate decided he would swim the whole length of the beach the other day - about 1.5 miles while I had to run down the sand to keep up with him. Both dogs are intact, up to date on shots, on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. They have AKC Reunite registration. They both retrieve well but Tate can be stubborn if the bird is chewed up from shot or he becomes distracted. He will cast back out and get it if you set him up and re-send him. He'll hold the bird if you remind him verbally as he approaches and he will "drop" into your hand. Bob usually retrieves enthusiastically but he will sometimes drop the bird at your feet on his own. I've been working with him on hold and if you get on him early he will hold and release when you say so. They are house-trained, do well in the outside kennel for 12 or more hours when they're out there. They like cats and pretty much ignore them and like other dogs.
The end of last year, Tate pointed 14 woodcock and Bob just 6. In the late winter they both pointed some wild quail and some preserve pheasant and chukar. Tate did have one fantastic find on a wild pheasant - I couldn't find him for over 5-minutes and when I did he was pointing what I thought was a quail. Since then they've pointed over 150 birds each in training. They are started on backing but while they will acknowledge the other dog and slow down a verbal "whoa" stops them and then they style up and understand the other is pointing. There's a picture of each at just 3 months retrieving some quail in the neighborhood, a picture of Tate backing Bob and one of them swimming at the beach. The other one is pretty recent. I've got both dogs in Texas now where we spend the winter until around March. Between purchase, vet, birds, registration, etc. for these guys I spent around $3300 each on them. I'd like to get most of my money back but I will consider an offer for either or both. If you can get them within 8-hours or so I will bring them to you. I will consider renting them to someone doing an extended bird trip "out West' or "up North". Don't be afraid to make an offer if you think you have the right home for them, their welfare and ability to go hunt is more important than recouping all costs.
