The cooking was yesterday, the hunt was Sunday. I scouted Saturday, had my limit by 8am Sunday morning then the rain came. And I came home, I didn’t want to mess with the rain. Saw lots of birds, drove all around Haskell county Saturday scouting.

Looks and sounds like a great morning. Tara's grey in her muzzle, time passes so fast...sucks! I think the same thing when you post pictures of R...

Dang Tara has a soft mouth. Half mine come back a little... chompy. I think it's when they aren't DRT and she thinks it's her job to finish. Odd thing is that Rosie doesn't do that to ducks. You work with her on that or is that natural?

You work with her on that or is that natural? It is constant work. It is absolutely not natural, what is natural is for them to chomp on it, especially when they are jacked up. I always keep a dove in the freezer for yard work, pic below is last month, before the open with a dove I had in the freezer from last season. If she starts to chomp, I give her a “no” with a little pop on the bridge of her snout with 1 or 2 figures. When she holds it nicely I let her know with a “good girl”… ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/09/full-2250-430255-img_4662.jpeg) The only thing that is natural for a dog is to retrieve, that comes natural, you don’t have to teach them to retrieve. What is unnatural and has to be taught is to hold steady, fetch on command, sit, hold nicely, none of that is natural.

Odd thing is that Rosie doesn't do that to ducks. Ducks it really doesn’t matter as much, but dove they are more delicate, I don’t like my birds all slobbery, plus you are doing the dog a huge favor because if they chomp it/mouth it all the feathers come off in their month, and many dogs they hate fetching dove for that reason. But yeah, it is more natural to chomp a dove, they are so nice and soft and irresistible.
