Have you ever seen and heard one?

We really want to see and hopefully hear the organ at the Strasbourg Cathedral when we pass through there in December. The engineering is amazing. I can't imagine working such an instrument.

Have you ever been to the Strasbourg Cathedral? We want to the the famous Strasbourg astronomical clock as well.

Diane Bish is a very famous organist.

I attended a Presbyterian private school as a kid grades 2-6, and they installed a pipe organ when I was in 3rd grade. It was an engineering marvel and the sound was absolutely incredible. And it doesn't hold a candle to that one.

I have seen the one at the "Tabernacle" in Salt Lake. Bottom note is so low you can't hear it, but the vibrations hit your body. Weird.

I can't imagine what the budgets are for each of the old Cathedrals in Europe to maintain them. $$$$

The one at Royal Albert Hall:

Sometimes a good offense can be better than a good defense wink

Olรฉ Thumper will be along directly too wink

Also, deer season wonโ€™t help or hurt this stuff either.

never have seen the one you mentioned, but we recently toured Scotland & Ireland and the pipe organ in St. Patrick's Cathedral in Armagh Ireland was very impressive. Our tour guide had been inside dozens of times with other tours and had never had an organist playing before.

(not sure why it rotated 90 CCW, was correct on my computer)

I lovvvvvvvvvvvvve classical music, gothic music and the sound of church organs.

I'm a huge "Phantom of the Opera" fan, the old movies that is.

I'd love to visit many old churches with organs, but we'll see what happens later in life.

...!

We do too but we lost the choir and music director (he played the organ) during covid and never got anyone back that can play it. It's a shame too because they did a great job when they were there.

My pastor has reminded me that organists don't grow on trees. Ours is a hack but thinks he's Mozart. But, he's straight (although you wouldn't guess), married, and is a Christian. Sadly, that's somewhat rare in an organist.

My aunt played the organ at church in Walburg for many many years, and my Mom played the piano at church in Georgetown for many many years.

My Dad's sister was the organist at Lakeside Baptist for over 30 years. They had a 2400 (best guess by memory) pipe organ installed in the late '80's or early '90's. Nothing like these but giant nonetheless. She even had a pipe organ built into her house. It was sold and removed a few years ago. Carpel Tunnel and arthritis have taken their toll.

Pass the gravy.
