Was a kick in the gut to hear. He played at a local bar while I was in college. RIP Stevie.

What with all the history of musicians getting on aircraft but never getting off of them, you'd think they'd stop flying from one engagement to the next. The list is not really short.
I remember hearing about Ricky Nelson's demise many years ago, but only recently discovered that I've passed within a mile or two of the crash site several times over the past few years unaware of the fact.

One act I'm proud to have seen before his death. Him and Omar and the Howlers at the Park Central Amphitheater.
I still remember the exact square foot of concrete I was standing on when I heard on Q102 that he had passed. The entire assembly line where I was working went silent for a good 5 minutes.

I saw him at the cotton bowl with the fabulous thunderbirds and the Who. Tremendous show. That was my first introduction to SRV and I was hooked. I had a girlfriend that didn’t like him or Jimmy due to the fact that she lived down the street from them growing up and she couldn’t stand it when they would jam in their garage.

I had a friend that was big into SRV. I remember him taking several days off when he passed. RIP LD Rice.

I had a chance to see him perform and I turned it down. Still kick myself over that.

I've shared before on here, but my guitar teacher at SFA back in 93 told a story about Stevie playing at Crossroads in Nacogdoches three times. He said the first time the place was empty. The second show, you were doing well to find a seat. The third show, the place was jam-packed and many couldn't even get in. I think he also played on campus once too.
My favorite video performance of his is during one of his songs on his 1989 Austin City Limits appearance. He breaks a string and continues to play on the five remaining strings, and it was impossible to discern that a string was missing. He was an absolute master.
