A while back there was someone on here interested in buying the meat off of half a bison but for the life of me I can't remember who it was. I was gonna ask if he was interested in half a water buffalo. Figured I'd post on here and maybe he'd see it.

It’s edible but it’s not the tastiest animal

I have seen them used to plow rice fields and used to pull wagon and trailers in Philippines. They are like cows pretty tame and enjoy laying in mudholes, I call them Carabao and they are all over the Philippines, many farm families have them.

I have never eat one that I recall, used more like a tool instead of food.

My uncle retired, he moved to the Philippines.
He had a couple of them. The big one was named John Deere.

Just curious, but why do you want to eat water buffalo?

I've heard they taste pretty good and a ton of meat for the cost to "hunt" (you can find them on multiple ranches for $1500). I saw one up close last year on a hunt and they are a BIG animal.

I bought some ground water buffalo meat at a farmers market once. Tasted like beef/bison.

I was inside a J&S meat process in Fairfield a few years back. They had 4 hanging and was cutting up the first one. They came from a high fence area outside of Corsicana. The smell coming from these critters was awful. I sure wouldn't want to eat any.

Two types of water buffalo, actually several different subspecies but in basic terms you have the river buffs and the swamp buffs. The swamp buffs are the ones with the wide horns like you find in Australia and the river buffs have smaller, curved horns.

Some are domesticated but the ones I was around in Argentina were not tame by any stretch and had a surly disposition




Meat is okay. It’s high yield for the amount of effort.
